Sat Navs

Hi

Anyone recommend a good satnav to use in the truck…? 12v or 24v (if available). Value your comments.

Cheers.

I think that most Sat- Navs work with either 12 or 24 volt. Most truckers seem to use TomTom ,truck one costs quite a lot ,but you could start of with an ordinary sat nav for about £60. and remember its not instead of but as well as brains.People do stupid things then blame the sat nav!

got one of these and its never done me wrong BUT AS HAS BEEN SAID use with a generous helping of common sense

If you already have a lap top and have the space I would recommend Autoroute with a GPS dongle, it works like any sat nav, but has a bigger screen and you can use it like a paper map as well.
If not then they are all much the same, just don’t follow them blindly

I thought VOSA were pulling people for having open laptops in view of the driver whilst driving

Like you cronus, I’ve been trying to get a good idea on a new satnav. After trawling the forum, it seems to be either Tomtom 7000(1)or the new Pronav PN3000, the earlier cheaper model PN2000 a good option. Price around £250. A lot of money, but if it does a good job, then I guess its worth it.
My A2Z’s are getting really out of date, and replacing them would also prove expensive, and buying an update seems a bit unreliable.

I have the Pronav PN300 can’t fault it. before used autoroute on a netbook but got pulled about it thinking i was watching a DVD player and it slid about a bit. never used other makes so cannot comment

Can you get Truck Sat Nav software to install on top of a ordinary Car Sat Nav software ?

Depends on the make of sat-nav, there are cracked solutions available for some sat-navs
