sat navs

see transporter driver today he had sat nav above steering wheel right in his line of vision surely it can’t be that bad . i don’t have one are they any good or waste of money. at least with map you can see where you want to go

Would’nt be without my Tom Tom 510, even tells me where the poxy speed cameras are…

Sorry, but I wouldn’t have one as a gift.

Also the screens should be banned.

However did we manage in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s?not to mention beforehand…

If I needed one of these things to find my way about I’d pack it in.The only time they might come in useful was if you were constantly changing depots and covering diffferent localities all the time on multi-drop work. (Paul)

And anothee thing - if you can’t manage without one then get the gaffer to buy it !!!

as an afterthought ,
how did we manage without
power steering
sleeper cabs
night heaters
electric this and that
portable tv
c.b. ’ s
all the that has since come in since i started driving in 1969.
its like everything else (even computers) you gotta move with the times but still rely on past experiances.
sat nav like most other things is a modern invention and if used correctly with or without a paper map then it should be fine. i dont beleive anyone who drives a truck saying they dont want all the help and comfort they can get, and if you do then you want an aec with no power steering no air brakes no bunk no electric mirrors etc.
just my opinion is all

Not starting another To satnav or not to satnav thing…

When I started I used it a lot. Mainly as I was on multidrop around london and it was easier than an A-Z and taking my eyes off the road.

For the last 3 weeks I’ve not needed it. Very rarely need a map these days either as the place I am now working for gives you a map of where the delivery is showing at least a major road or the closest motorway junction.
