Sat nav

raymundo:

the nodding donkey:
Google earth on your phone is free.

I pity people who buy a satnav.

But the data it uses aint, is it?

I only use it for the last ten minutes to get me in the gate. I don’t need a ■■■■ nav in my windscreen to tell me how to get from Bristol to Harrogate. .

Evil8Beezle:
A Sat-Nav doesn’t get interrupted with calls either, or open up the potential of being accused of using your phone whilst driving…

If you spend all day on your phone, that is your problem.

And I use Google earth to check out where I’m going before I get there. And have it on the dash, for the last few miles, using its dulcet tones to guide me in. Hands free :grimacing:

I must be a dinosaur as I can remember the times we ran all over the ■■■■■■ place over the water and even further afield without any forms of electronic aids and didn’t end up under low bridges or even down farm tracks. How the hell did we manage to survive but I applaud you for managing Bristol to Harrogate without a pratnav until the last few mins

To be honest, I prefer typing the destination into my phone, over having to find a lcoal petrol station, nipping in and sureptitously looking up the adres in an a to z… :grimacing: . Or listing to a local giving me directions left, right, riu d the oak, left at the old nunnery, under the low bridge…

If you have one of those jobs where you go from A to B then that’s fine,if your doing 10-15 drops around busy city centres like Leeds/Birmingham/Manchester ect then a sat nav is a god send…sure I could use an A-Z but whu would I?!

the maoster:
I was thinking earlier on how much I love sat navs! Driving up the M11 heading to Peterborough for the night and I hear that the A1 north is blocked, no problem, I just come off at Alconbury and go up the old A1. As I looked to my left at the miles of stationary traffic and then ahead at the empty road in front of me I reflected that years ago all lorry drivers knew diversion routes but nowadays if the machine doesn’t say it then it doesn’t happen.

years ago all lorry drivers didn’t work for plobbing bean counters where you have to unzip your head, and leave your brain in the car before starting your shift…if the risk assessed route is blocked or delayed, then computer/traffic office/assessment sheet says, you must not divert as it has not been risk assessed, hence sit and scratch your scrotes til it clears…you must not use your own initiative, you must not think for yourself, you must not do anything to help your situation unless someone else has told you to do so…just plob on and count your beans till someone in authority tells you to do something different…sad but true… :unamused:
