Why is it so many drivers just use a sat nav and not a map? Is it laziness or can they not read a map.I don’t honestly know.
I have used a sat nav but always check my map as well unless I am 100% sure that I am heading in the right direction.
Better than ending up in an embarrassing situation like this…
on Grand National day
i have to say its Horses for Courses
some say they have it on for
Traffic news
or
so they know how far they have to go and their times
Hard to believe the latter with our drivers as they all do the same routes

I have it on for the hands-free function, also it’s routed so if there’s a diversion or if the boss rings me up etc, it’s already set up.
I have it on because of the traffic, eta times, how far to my exit so i know whether to bother overtaking or not as well as the obvious navigation, it’s easier than trying to read instructions. I can’t remember my whole route normally unless I’ve been there a few times. I don’t trust it 100%, I always look at the planned route and tbh I’ve always had a sat nav in a truck and it feels a bit odd not having one. Doesn’t make me an idiot for using one, it means I’m capable of using all methods of technology to make my life easier.
It told me to drive through a river and over a train track once, didn’t believe it so went a different way.
i have the sav nav on cos i have some dirty photos of large women stored on there
then i can put it on screensaver mode
and look at them while i am driving

Perv Can’t fault ya
I usually have a sat nav to get me to the area in going and then look at the little map on the paperwork to find out where exactly I need to go (3rd left 2nd right etc etc), usually the sat nav will only go to the postcode area so I don’t like to rely on them too much. Makes for a no brainer though when traveling the bigger main roads.

thats what i use mine for
A satnav is a map .
Not only that, it is a safe map because it sits in the corner of your windscreen, allows you to pre-plan your route and doesn’t need you to find the page or look at a piece of paper on your lap while you are driving. Also if it is a proper truckers satnav it will plan your route around bridges and weight limits, you tell me where you can get a paper map with weight limits.
If you don’t realise that satnavs (and knowledge of how to use them properly) are a good thing your a bloody caveman .

Would agree with you on that , and add that drivers are relying on them to much, and take the route for granted that you can go there, it a tool of the job, use it right and have the right setting and the right type truck for trucks.
I have the Snooper s7000, for nights out the TV is very good, multi channels, 16 multi drops, incident avoidance and road closures, strong and long tv aerial, magnet base, blue tooth to pair up your mobile phone up to.
When on double decker trailers, and if the HATO or Police order you off the road, the sat nav will take me away from low bridges.
Map everytime but then I do the same route day in day out lol

Seen her on the 60s plus page
I don’t have any paper maps anymore, just my satnav. But I wont get in to a situation like in that story. Why? Because I drive the lorry not the Satnav.

+1
it,s just a modern map and takes less room than 50 street atlas books
why do we have people saying they are useless, they are not, it’s the user who is when they screw up and then blame an electronic device that can only do what it is programmed to do.
as for the eyes/paper map brigade only good look and hope you have big pockets to keep renewing the map books as they go out of date each year.
can renew sat nav maps for free every 3 months, never let me down yet.
