I used to utilise maps but much prefer the sat nav these days, even it it can be a pain at times. The bad old days of maps infuriatingly sliding off seats, and disappearing into the passenger side footwell of the truck are history now.

sat nav most of the time but if i dont believe it i use my maps. a couple of times it has taken me to the wrong place and the map has saved a phonecall and some embarrasment.i always have satnav on, even if i know where im going. just for the arrival times and traffic, helps a great deal if they are chasing you.
But it didnt help you get out of Basingstoke though did it - I got you through the worst of the traffic…
Just the sun and the night stars for me… Whats good for the vikings is good enough for me
Once Ive driven a route once or twice Im generally OK, however if its to my dads girlfriend in Portsmouth…
I use a map & a programme on my laptop which has a satnav facility that I haven’t used yet, I normally stop when I’m close to my destination & have a look at the map on the laptop & memorise my way in, this way I’m still picking out landmarks rather than relying on the computer to guide me, hopefully that’ll avoid any small town/big truck incidents
I do keep threating to get a tomtom or whatever but I haven’t been hopelessly lost for ages so don’t feel the need, yet, although it’s going to happen now I’ve said that
What about the 6th sense or whatever you want to call it?
You know, when the sat nav has told you wrong and you are in the middle of nowhere and you just know where you need to go■■?
What is that?
Use a tomtom in conjunction with an Atlas. Sat navs have a habit of sending you down strange roads and routes especially abroad!! Plot your route and check it against an atlas. Whilst driving in Sweden my tomtom tried to direct me into the garden of a big house because there was an old track up the side of it. Lucky escape!
i use a tomtom ,with low bridges on it but also a paper map with low bridges and mappoint 2009 . never had a problem and to me its worth the extra few minutes checking the paper as well as the other two.
Had a truck yesterday with a duff cigarette lighter.
Three hours into the multidrop run the satnav packed up. Had to finish off with maps & a-z’s. Was bloody horrible
I normally use both, check the run on the map & let the satnav guide me in but yesterday made me realise just what a godsend the satnav is.

its both for me,and cross reference with my bridge height map book, which i could not do without.Im the same. Somwhere new I will check the map for low bridges then try the satnav and if it routes me clear I will follow satnav. If I know the route 100% I dont bother looking at either.
Same for me.
I use the satnav more for giving me approx ETAs and letting the office know if I am likely to be late.
it would be both for me just in case
but at the mo don’t’ need map or sat nav to find my wayto the job centre it my second home at the mo
Del
i now use both
use the good old atlas to get within a few miles of where I’m going then ,pop the address in the prat nav and get taken right to the door on most occasions, unless its too new to be on the sat nave , then its a case of asking in the nearest shop/garage, or the local postie
As with the others I use both. As an agency driver I don’t know who I’m working for from one day to the next so don’t always know where i’m going.Usually use a map first and pratnav for the last bit, although there are so many new estates around now even in my hometown that pratnav can be a godsend. Had a new AA truckdrivers atlas for chrimbo. Much better!!
I use both and also look on the internet, on yell or the company website to look at their location, and also view route on sat nav, to check for bridges, a phone number helps as well, because local knowledge is best, Be prepared thats what I say!

A company I drive for quite regularly has an old ‘W’ reg truck with a dodgy ■■■ lighter, which they keep saying they will fix but never seem to do. I can get 4 hours from a charged Tom Tom and luckily I have a spare one to use as well in that tip of a lorry. I feel your pain having to just use maps.
