I had my first drop in Gillingham last Thursday. I cannot understand why my dezl 760 took me onto A30 and then B3092 (6.5 miles in total) instead of B3081 (4 miles) which is suitable for any lorry. Approaching the roundabout in Shaftesbury from A350 North you need to choose third exit (Bleke Street) to get onto B3081, it is more quickier and easier than A30&B3092. Does not the sat nav like that crazy The Beeches and Bleke Street junction?
Truck satnavs like to route via A-roads when they are a viable option, even if it means travelling a few miles more and taking significantly longer time-wise. In the absence of specific height/weight/width/length restrictions, as far as the satnav is concerned, one B-road is just the same as any other - So given the choice it will usually opt for the “safe” option of the A-road.
Sat nav is the aid! If you get just company’s name, street and postcode whilst trunking in the UK and you have never been to that place, you will need it!
Its important to remember that the sat-nav didnt take you anywhere. You have to assume command and remember that its just a box of tricks there to help you.The buck stops with you.I like having mine but sometimes I tell it to go zb itself.

Have I got it wrong (if so apologies) are you saying the sat nav took you on a route that you knew to be not as suitable as the second route you mention.
A sat nav does not ‘‘take you’’ anywhere it is a guide , you as a driver decide the route. Your second post tells us ‘you need’ a sat nav when given an incomplete address my answer to that would be one word …■■■■■■■■! what do you think we done before sat navs, and speaking as somebody that does use one …as a GUIDE, buy a map ffs!
Always check the route it comes up with before you set off to see if you agree with it! If you don’t, make it go the way you want by Travel via / waypoints etc or whatever you need to do on your system to make it go the way you want to go
