My latest copy of “Wheels” quotes “The recently released XpertHR Distribution Staff Salary Survey 2012/2013” showing that the median (the middle of the range of the data) pay rises for transport workers during 2012 was 2%. On a 60hr week that is £312 a year I’m sure you would rather have it than not, also that is average, taking into account night drivers who are generally on a 1/3 more so I would guess that most around your area would be lucky to be on £10ph working days (assuming your on days) it’s not too bad tbf, there will be MANY on £4ph less than yourself.
I think it is obscene that a driver who has invest over £3k into his profession can be paid less than £10ph. But supply out weighs demand and will continue to while we have open flood gates at Dover.

what a load of ■■■■■■■■,wages in felixstowe are about £7.50 phr working direct as employee ,on agency you might get £9 phr o/t not much more plus it dont start until you done 50/55 hrs per week
damoq:
Well I don’t know how they arrive at those average wages. Seems way off the mark to me.
That’s what averages do, they are just an indicator.
The figure that brought this home to me is that the average Britain has 1.99 legs, cus the average will include those without a leg (or two).
i think the rates look about right.
the ones that don’t agree are the same ones that get offered £7.50, £8.00,or £8.50 per hour, then say errrrr OK.
They don’t have the balls to say “sorry i can’t work for those rates”.

Phil, in theory I agree with you, but theory aint the real world mate. As long as there are more drivers as jobs, as it is now, thats gonna be the way it is, fact. You could make a stand and do as you say, but there will be as sure as hell x number of drivers behind you in the queue who will take said job, so you go home congratulating yourself that you had the balls to say no, to sit on your arse cos there’s no other jobs available other than similar ones you have just turned down, or you sign on a ■■■■ agency who will promise you the world on £15 an hour or whatever and you get 2 days a week work…Ok, if everybody stuck together etc etc … but like I said …real world. As I said what you say is right, and nobody more than me, being a mouthy ■■■■■■■ , speaks up for himself if I think I am being analed, but when I was made redundant from a good job, I had the choice of a crap paid job or ■■■■ all, so I HAD to take the former rather than the latter, bite my tounge, and smile.
