Any idea what the score is here? All the inbound bays have been empty for a while now and as I passed today I noticed a load of builders portakabins had appeared. Some , but not many, of the outbound bays were being used but well below capacity. The place hasn’t been going that long really so it’s a suprise to see it so quiet, but I do remember hearing rumours that they built it on dodgy ground and it was so large and heavy that it had started to sink!!(or is that one for the urban myth thread )
Oh dear I do hope it isn’t.
They are one of the best RDCs going, I reckon.
They invite you to use their canteen. The food tastes fine and is very reasonably priced.
They have you on your way quite quickly too.

Quite possible it’s right next to the river and if you look at a map there are large areas of water all the way from Tottenham north past Hoddesdon.
All the houses on the estate behind were piled, extensively so (as I am led to believe)
8wheels, i agree although I was also told there are a large amount of diused undergound artillery stores (mt of course ) in the Enfield… ish area and this could be the cause of the 'alledged 'subsidence. Not as it worries me as I don’t do RDC’s , i’m just a nosey git!!!

Your’e spot on with this. The Ordanance factory and store used to be on the site, IIRC they spent a good few months going through the site removing underground bunkers and buildings up top.It did’t take too long before they started building waltham point though !!
Definately not - I should know as I work there.
All the ambient has been transferred to Buntingford whilst the ambient chamber of the depot is being worked on to increase capacity. Ambient is scheduled to return back to Waltham Point before Christmas.
In the meantime, another 60 trailers and 30 odd units will be arriving tomorrow to start the primary distribution taken in house from NFT Elstree. The NFT Elstree warehouse will be converted to expand the frozen warehouse which was up until today was shared with NFT Elstree.
Well there you go, thanks for satisfiying my curiosity Interlog. The power of the internet eh ! Although it’s nice to know the grape vine was half right concerning the ammo dump, just watch where you step next time your’e on shift Cheers
Interlog,
I was born in Freezywater so a stones throw from the Waltham Abbey Depot.
My Old Chap worked on the first demolition of the old Royal Ord stores virtually ontop of where the new houses are located. The area was littered with old rooms covered and unopened for many years with stores found containing hundreds of World War 1 enfield rifles still with the Somme mud on them that had been sent for refurb but the war ended so they where put into storage. The same goes for Lee Enfields from the second world war these where sold off to Gun Collectors around the world and to a firm that converted them to Air Rifles.
The funny but very true story is that Nitro Glycerine was mad at the abbey end and the years of manufacture meant that the gasses had soaked into the bricks and ground. When one store was knocked down it blew the bucket off the digger, the remaining buildings are now part of the heritage tour as it was deemed to costly and dangerous to continue in those areas. SO if you go on the tour be careful where your flick your ■■■ end.
