Safety in lorry?

my personal first line of defence is the in cab fire extinguisher, out of the bracket stood by the side of the drivers seat, anyone comes in or near gets it in the face with the powder then on the head with the steel. if i should be awake enough, but it is a plan.

Ive been doing nights out for the last 10 years or so i used to carry a bat but not anymore. There is a fire extingusher in the cab a powder type.In all the time ive being do the nights out i havent any problems to speak of.I never carry anything of value well in a tipper anyway.
i always park in laybys or Ind estates as we dont get paid parking all you have to do is be aware of your surroundings most theives only want whats in the back not the stuff in the cab.

as you might need a torch in the middle of the night a nice large maglite torch is handy to have within arms reach.

even they are not as heavy as they used to be, i just got a new 2 ‘D’ cell maglight, it’s only half the weight of the old version :imp:

Thats you having built up all that muscle in yr right arm!!!

MolePower:
never really worried about it , as i dont carry anything of any value to anyone , not unless they have a cow at home & they got deep pockets to carry loose cattle feed with
i think the only target i’d be is for fuel, & as long as they’re quiet , i’ll let them carry on , i dont get paid to fight them off, but should a cab break in occurr i have a length of heavy 1.1/4 inch water pipe to hand, that’ll give the buggers a headache :smiling_imp:

i use it to wedge between the seat & hold the foot brake down to check my brake lights every morning

i don’t think i’ll take my chances fighting them off with a sandwich

So you’ve never had one of the old British Railways sarnies then.

make sure your phone is always charged & has credit to call 999

You don’t need credit to call 999 or 112.

Sorry for the late reply. I was too busy laughing at the thought of calling the police and them actually turning up!

Indeed. I believe it is why the networks don’t charge for the call, taking money under false pretences or something.

i now use my pet spider. i got it off a driver that had just done it in one hit from borneo.
it can kill a man from 10’ away, just by looking at him.

You would get a Pizza delivered quicker than a response from the police

Probably not a popular reply but something that sprung to mind from a womans point of view as opposed to a truckers, please don’t take this the wrong way! … this is a public forum, you don’t need to register to read it. In your signature you have a link to your facebook, which has a public image (timeline cover photo) that shows your trucks registration number?
Now I know that this is not really relevant to your oppurtunist petty thieves - but I’m just pointing out in the interests of internet safety as much as anything else, you have pretty much just advertised the lorry that has a lone female driver in overnight.

i’ve just checked her out on facebook.
and she can break into my cab if she likes.
all in the name of research of course. :smiling_imp:

I am a female driver, I spend nights out parked in laybys and industrial estates (the quieter the better) I have never been worried about being on my own or unwanted visitors/derv stealers…
Sometimes I even forget to lock my doors!
People keep asking me am I not worried about staying out on my?!
Should I be■■?
Do I really need to carry protection (god knows what)■■?!
Or am I just blissfully naive?!
As far as I’m concerned I’m happy and not bothered parked up for the night, curtains drawn.
Just asking?!
Cheers

Whats a well fit lassie like you doing driving a wagon?

Best weapon to have is a sock with plenty of 50p’s and £1 coins in…swing that at someoneand they’d know about it.

Then put the coins in your pocket at sock on your foot…what weapon officer? :sunglasses:

Not much use to a skint bar steward like me though is it

i’d try waving a sock loaded with iou notes.

I’ve done nights away all over Europe, and pay more attention to my safety in the UK than anywhere else now.
I’ve never carried a “tool” just incase I got robbed. I have sometimes strapped door handles together after a close friend got done in Habay, but after a week got bored of doing it!
I have had more fuel stolen and curtains cut and things taken in the UK than anywhere else I’ve been.

One thing I did do, is leave 1 of my 2 phones and a small amount of cash on the dash, and put my other phone and wallet under the mattress so if in the event of getting robbed, hopefully I’d still have a phone and cash.

Regarding the OP’s facebook page. Hayley, I hope you don’t fill in your current location on the Bing map when your away.

Does this post have anything in relation to the post Safety in Lorry2 or is 1 a pee take and the other serious or vice versa or both non related?

Related, the clue is in the thread titles.

I was parked in the services at Tienen in Belgium last Monday and was gassed and robbed.
They took two phones, fuel cards, all my cash,my wallet and driving license.
It’s knocked my confidence in doing nights out for six big time and it hasn’t helped working for a company that didn’t give a toss either.

Booked in when??:
