Safety equipment

I’m going somewhere tomorrow that needs full PPE now is a Bump cap classed as Safety or will I need proper hard hat

it depends where your going, a little more info would help
Chep req you to wear a hard hat while onsite.
I get bump caps given to me by firms, so that I can go into flour mills

I personally would take a hard hat as some companies request so.
Take both with you and see how it goes :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

No I wouldn’t have thought so even if it meets the safety standards i would imagine they would require you to have the usual type as they consider its an approved hard hat

You’d need to ask the company really, but if they’re calling for full PPE I wouldn’t have thought a bump cap would suffice.

Wouldn’t take the bump cap. Hard hat would cover full PPE regs. Won t get turned away with a hard hat, more chance of that happjin with a bump cap.

Full ppe to me would be boots, glove, hi vis, glasses and a hard hat. Very few places accepting a bump cap now

Hard hat methinks, it’s becoming more and more likely that bump caps are seen as just about good enough for inside your cab now for most places, best to have it covered.
If you are going to be returning regularly then you can always ask the question for future reference.

If you want to be really ■■■■, you need to make sure that it’s in date as well-

3 years old & you’ve got to throw it away !!!
Obviously if anything hits you when it’s 3 years & 1 day old, it will melt around your ears.

hard hats were introduced for all on the shop floor at the last place I worked (engineering workshop) and as you would expect some of the lads decided to decorate theirs with stickers . they were told to get them off as the adhesive attacked the plastic  apparently the adhesive used on the information stickers affixed by the manufacturer was “special”

Been told that as well yet they stick stickers on saying site inducted

Bump caps dont count. I used to do container work and at Grangemouth docks a hard hat was required for getting out of the vehicle (how this helped against 30 tonnes of solid steel container is anyones guess but the regs are the regs!) and the guys on the straddle carriers had to be able to see it was a hard hat clearly. Lots of guys with bump caps were refused unloading and had to go round and wait in line again. Anyones whos been to Grangemouth docks will know how long THAT can take!
So I think most places will be the same.
Even so, A bump cap looks like a normal hat so if you get a stickler for the regs and he comes up to you and demands you take your cap off and change it to a hard hat he might not want to look like a ■■■■ when he realises its a bump and still insist on a hard hat to avoid looking like a chump.
