Safe waiting zone for drivers

Don’t you know it.To be fair, they are a bunch of cretins at TA TA scunthorpe.

be very careful, if you turn up intoxicated as they’ll refuse you entry/ loading AND get the police involved! I know none of us drink for a living, but YOU’VE been warned! :sunglasses:  :open_mouth: :unamused: :grimacing: :grimacing:

i for one hope the magazine can do something and maybe get the ball rolling with this kind of stuff , unlikley i know but you never know .

its at the point that we can visit several different companys and have totally different rules at each one some of which are humiliating to say the least , the O.P’s being one of them .
i’ll never understand why or how they get away with it .

as an example we go regular to peugeot coventry with full regulation PPE only to be told that its not good enough and we have to remove our bog standard HI-VIZ that conforms to regulation and swap it for a pink one that clearly states on the label that it does not conform to regulation and that will never make any sense to me at all . it comes across as rule change just for laughs and it stinks .

im pretty sure i have a photo of said pink HI-VIZ and if i can find it i’ll post it …

dont even get me started on dovegate prison , what an absolutely idiotic place that is totally humiliating :imp:

i can rant about plenty of other places but whats the point its all been said before …

this is the very same pink HI-VIZ i was given to replace my own , if you look at the lable in clearly states it does’nt comform , and ive just noticed the size of it , its XXL and at best im medium large . you do get the feeling these things are done for laughs … RANT OVER … :imp:

Looking at the link the word should is applied not must. As long as it distinguishes the wearer from the background it is suitable. Don’t forget that these firms do employ H&S advisors and will either do the minimum allowed or go completely over the top. I can see the reasoning for certain personnel to wear different colours and if there are only two flourescent colours that conform then that makes distinguishing people harder.

I’m on about the link , It clearly states the Hi Viz does not comply to Euro or British standards

It clearly states what does conform to Euro or Brtitish standards, but it doesn’t say you can’t wear hi vis that doesn’t conform.
But then it states
“From July 1995, new clothing must be ‘CE’ marked to show it meets the new European rules on the manufacture of PPE. Remember: the CE mark only means that the clothing meets the standard. It does not mean it can be used in all situations. HV clothing must be suitable for the actual conditions of use.”
so it does contradict itself, but then again so do the health and safety bods
So in conclusion after reading it I’m non the wiser

Here is what TATA have too say

TATA:
“The green shelter in the photograph was used to ensure drivers’ safety while HGVs were either loaded or unloaded.

“The shelter was moved some time ago after we relocated the loading zone away from the flooded area. The ground conditions have also been improved since the photograph was taken following extensive drainage work.

“It’s important to recognise that the shelters are there to ensure drivers’ safety. They are not intended to act as welfare facilities for visiting drivers.

“We’ve recently invested in a new visitor centre on the Scunthorpe site. The centre has just opened and will help to further improve the safety of the many visitors to our 2,000 acre site. Nothing is more important than our employees, contractors and visitors being able to go home safely at the end of their working day.

“As well as basic facilities for drivers at the new visitor centre, we have driver facilities at our despatch offices on the Scunthorpe site.”

I have asked them to clarify what facilities are offered - and how drivers access them, I have also asked if they still think the steel box is acceptable given the negative comments from drivers on here… Be warned this is also to be an article in one of our magazines and any comments may be used

OTS:
I would play with myself whilst in there.

I doubt it will be long before someone goes in for a ■■■■ or worse.

Does Debbie Mcgee come on carrying a hand saw?

If that is Scunthorpe those loading steps haven’t lasted long :unamused:

i did refuse to put it on , infact i told the guard that the best i was going to do was hang it from my belt or throw it over my shoulder but i wouldnt put it on , for a start it was far too big for me and if im going to be killed i wont be wearing pink . he said that the woman in the office would probably kick off but she didnt say a word and nor did the stacker driver so i didnt wear it which makes it even more pointless …

So safety of employees and visitors is paramount to them ? Well lets hope that the wind doesn’t blow too hard or anything bang into that ‘safety’ zone as it looks like it will roll over. its basically coffin for a living person. disgusting treatment of humans from tata and then trying to justify it without addressing the issue mainly citing the.mud. i would like the magazine to ask if the h and s staff are prepared to stand in an adjacent box with the drivers whilst all vehicles are unloaded.so they can over see the h and s aspect of each and every load. You all know that they will want to now find out who the driver is in the box to ban him off site and also which loader it was who took the pic so they can sack them dont you
