If an old analogue tacho breaks can it be replaced with similar, or will it need to be replaced with a new digi tacho?
I’d love to still have some of the night trunk discs from the 80’s still for the sake of posterity, you know the ones, where the speed trace right goes to the to very edge of the chart and describes a perfect compass circle for an hour or more at a time and the distance trace almost become a solid bar

Someone I know had a little trick: when he had a card with loads of black marks on it, hed tear out the center field, no names etc, and leave it somewhere conspicuous in the ferry office. He
d get a kick from the “Chuffing idiot” remarks when it was found!

92 ish, I had a (unexpected![]()
) fire in my office, and it (unfortunately) burned all my and my driver’s cards before a scheduled visit from the then equivalent to VOSA…who’d have thought it eh?
Funniest thing was, about 5 yrs later at a local VOSA spotcheck as an employed driver, the guy recognised my name and we had a good laugh about it…still not daft enough to admit any (alleged) guilt then though.
Was you gassed too rob? That seems to be a common problem in these circumstances too.
Might as well burn all your old a - zs as well as there more.less redundant now. Although I do have a fondness for them to be honest

I’m a bit of a saddo! I’ve kept my last months tachos from when I retired in 2012. I’ve also got my work diaries, my old black book licences, my PSV licence badge (issued 50 years ago this coming September) and my expired ADR and digi cards. I’m donating them to Beamish Museum when I pop my clogs. Hopefully not for a while yet!
Regards Kev.

Got rid of all mine about 5 yrs ago, mainly as I could not read the micro small print anymore .
Knew they were of no more use, and outdated, when I saw my little girl’s name scribbled inside them, and little drawings she done in them when she used to come away with me…she’s now 33.

No you can replace it with another analogue unit no problem.

But you cant do a retro fit of an analogue tacho in an old truck if it didn’t have one fitted before 2006 must be a digi one
I think it’s sad really
I’m not some old time driver looking with rose tinted specs,I’m only 39 and passed in 2001 but I hate these changes that have been made,
To me 2001 to 2006 were the happiest times in my driving career, trucks were modern but not over complicated emissions etc and most had a manual box…
I found no problem keeping legal with analogue charts and the odd “favour” was easily covered up…
Now with all this new technology many drivers ■■■■ up the fact they are been constantly surveyed and it makes the job stressful.
Time moves on but I find the job harder now than 16 -17 years ago…
I only got shut of my analogue truck last year, was a bit of a sad day as o doubt I will fill out a paper disc again…
Yeah, early to mid 2000s were the best period I agree for the same reasons although I do like the digi tacho, takes all the guess work out of it.
