Sorry boys and girls.
I’ve just had a lovely dinner and a red hot shower.
Just getting ready to jump into this little beauty and settle down to Love Island.
I spent Dec-Feb in Premier Inns for work and I got fed up with the menu soon enough, fry ups everyday became boring. I was happy enough in my cab in Bingley town centre last night, after an 8hr day it was a swift trip to Wetherspoons and a pizza on the way back to the cab. No nights out now though till next Sunday and that will be a ferry cabin anyway so toilet/shower facilities en suite
It’s not usually Premier Inns.
It was just the cheapest place near to my collection in the morning.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m no stranger to the ‘baby-wipe shower’ I just choose not to.

a McDonald’s , I wish , I’ve got a bottle of water / mcvities apple pie flapjack for my tea and instead of my bed/ house like 99.9 % of the population do I’ve got a layby on the a14 tonight , if I was a dog they’d of taken me off the owner for cruety by now
Thanks for proving my point
All the super truckers saying how wonderful their dinners are and how great it is washing in a bucket. I’ll sick my lamb joint tonight and bubble bath. Then LOVE ISLAND
but you notice they don’t mention there families , it’s all about them and how there enjoying it , no thought to how the wife , kids feel about them being away all week, do they think about the Mrs when she’s not feeling so great and still has to look after the kids / house , how does the boy feel when he goes to football practise and dads not there to cheer him on
I think you have to be very selfish person to be a tramper and that’s why I struggle so much with it ,

Jesus Dozy - my original comments were to spice things up and had an element of truth to them. But I’m starting to feel bad now that people really do have such crappy existence’s.
Love Island is on - so I can’t concentrate properly. But why not get a day job? Without being funny I’m probably one of the crappest drivers on here and I have been offered assessments for good jobs for good firms paying good money. You live in Bristol right? DHL are after day shift drivers and they pay decent £££. Why subject yourself and your family to third world conditions?
If people enjoy sleeping in trucks that is fine. It takes all sorts. It wouldn’t be for me but that’s okay as well. But you don’t like it and it’s upsetting your family. You need your head checking if you don’t pack it in.
I used to be out every week night when I worked on the Fed Ex Matchbox contract, I never went a single day without a shower and a proper meal, life is what you make of it, I once spent 6 months travelling every state in the lower 48 here in the USA and only went home for 1 - 2 nights every 4 weeks, the same thing, shower and meal every day.

How many suitable places have you passed in order to get your 15 hours in to the minute?
Exactly ! I had 2 parking spots in my sights tonight [emoji6]one was 2 hours further down the road than the other , but Birmingham traffic meant I went for second choice but still a tucked back lay by
Also. Wouldn’t of even made any where near my first drop tomorrow

What’s with layby parking, either snap, truck stop, ind-est, or somewhere out the way, definitely never a layby…

my notice goes in fri , I’m not sure how I’ll cope at 56 ■■■■■■■ fridges , freezers , tv ,s around but it’s the only job of late I’ve been for with no mention of nights out ( be it the odd one that will end up all week I’ve no doubt )
As for feeling sorry for these drivers with there crappy existences , don’t , feel sorry for the wife’s , kids , there the ones who are suffering for there husbands dads selfishness

Who in their right mind wants to sleep in a house, eat propper food and have ■■■ with his Mrs when they can sleep in a tiny bed of a truck on their own all week?
Well, if you are looking for a serious answer, I have visited Lenin’s mausoleum in Moscow, been around Dolbamache Palace in Istanbul and then gone across the Bosphorus on a passenger ferry, been up the Eiffel Tower at twilight, seen the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, spent numerous weekends laying on some beach or by a swimming pool in Spain, seen the Northern Lights in Sweden, been to the Celtic Festival in Lorient, spent a week at the White Nights festival in St Petersburg and been paid for doing all of it…
Oh, and believe it or not, you can get “propper” food in all of these places.
I’m going to stop now because I know that none of this will be as interesting to some spotty student as watching telly or going on the X-box.
That’s the attraction for my lads Harry. We managed the most southerly destination we’ve ever been to last week (Trapani), and there was a queue of volunteers. There’s a Trac more coming up, so everyone will get their turn.
As for being away from family, I never felt I missed out as a kid when my dad was driving, we were vvery close. And slightly different, Mr A ran the southern depot for six years and was away all week, and that was fine too.
I class myself as a semi tramper. I average 2-3 nights out a week. I have tried going on days before but using fleet trucks and plodding round locally bores the ■■■■ of me so I’ve got a good compromise I think.
My tramping life 1972 to 75, no showers, two sinks, and an evaporator that made 5 gallons per hour. What you wore when you sailed was what you were wearing when you got home. Had a set of clean clothes/uniform in case we visited anywhere. Every thing stunk of diesel and ■■■■■ Mum used to put all my clothes out in the coalshed until she could wash them. All changed a bit when I joined nuclear boats.
Keeping clean when I’m tramping is a doddle.

No need to feel sorry for my wife or kids thanks.Maybe when there really young you have a point with the kids. But some wives can and do handle their other halfs being away. There are plenty of other jobs where people work away.So this one is’nt unique.I wish you all the best with your new venture. But i bet you’ll wish you stayed tramping ■■■■■■■ all that stuff about.

This. My Dad was always away and it never effected our relationship and we remain very close. As I always say to people it’s not about how much time you stay at home with the kids, it’s the quality of the time. We always had a great time when Dad was home so we never felt like we were missing ou, while our friends Dads were plodding round hoovering the car or doing DIY badly. And of course I (and my two brothers) followed him into this crazy business we call transport
Trampling is entirely what you make it and I love it
I quite like sleeping in the truck and I can make myself very comfortable with good bedding and a memory foam mattress.
It also means I can travel further from normal drops and meet different bolshy security men to have a row with (long story, late friday was NOT a great drop)
I also don’t have a Mrs to go home to and I can cook for myself thank you. Don’t be sexist as not all female lorry drivers are lesbians
(Sorry to all - obviously still grumpy from friday…)
Think thats why marriages last so long being a tramper…out of each others hair for a week or so…she does her thing, i do mine…as for the washing bit…always carry enough water, there is no excuse…until you can get to a shower, even wet wipes at times…better than not washing…and for the food, its rare i use the cooker, normally always eat out…but i do carry packets of rice…pasta…etc…and tins of meat…so never without a meal in an emergency.

And as far as eating goes, I can say after seeing some of Luke’s cooking vids, he does better than I do at home.
