I do have a bluetooth head set which I use no problem & quite legal thanks
Not completely 100% legal though, here’s why…
Hands-free phone law
You are allowed to use a phone if it is fully hands-free – you’re not allowed to pick it up and operate it even momentarily.
Any hands-free devices should be fully set up before you drive, so you can take calls without handling the device.
The police still have the power to stop you if they believe you have been distracted by using a mobile phone while driving, even if it’s fully hands-free. Some road safety groups believe mobile phones should be completely switched off while driving, to avoid any distractions.
What a load of complete ■■■■■■■■.
So reading all that crap they are saying you should be sat bolt upright gripping the wheel for dear life and not taking your hands off it for a second, otherwise carnage will ensue.
I drive with my steering knob (no not that type of knob ) and more often than not have the other hand on my leg, it’s just habit, done it for years…no doubt some will be totally outraged and call for me to hand in my licence, as I’m a menace on the roads.
Taking a sip of coffee?..Yeh, we all know it’s illegal, but just forget for one second that you’ve been brainwashed by ‘them’ …Now ask yourself is it REALLY unsafe, does your attention suddenlly switch right off as soon as that cup touches your bottom lip, causing you to veer over 3 full lanes ?
I aint talking frying your bacon and egg on the dash here either btw.
Unless you are some gibbering idiot who is incapable of doing more than one activity at once of course it aint dangerous…and neither is pressing a screen to accept a call while on hands free.
UK over the top ridiculous law enforcement carried out with great enthusiasm once again.
Again a degree of disgretion is called for in these instances, but will never fit into the current H&S indoctrination that so many seem to accept without question.
I have driven in rush hour central London were concentration is hard enough without the distraction of some unsatisfiable planner/customer/boss chewing off your ear.
I have driven French motorways where I was the only vehicle for miles around and would welcome something other to do than steer and fall asleep.
Yes, the geezer used a phone and this is against the law, but no one died right.
Who knows why, perhaps personal reasons. Whatever, it is well publicised and he will have undoubtably known the conciquences, but for some concerned member of the public to wield the power of quite a devastating influence over a mans livelihood, maybe even using a mobile phone to take the photo themselves is really astonishing.
But hey, in a previous era they were known as brown shirts. That worked out just fine, didn’t it■■?

I am totally deaf in 1 ear so please all speak up a bit The headphones you get with the phone are no good to me because of this same as most headphones you buy I do have a bluetooth head set which I use no problem & quite legal thanks
Get yourself a Baha’ go and see the local ent … you won’t be deaf in one ear.
How ■■?
Nowt can be done
It can, look it up on google, it’s a tiny titanium screw that’s drilled into the conductor bone behind the ear … so if you are deaf in the right ear they place it behind the right ear and then it’s a processor that connects and then it transfers the hearing from the good ear to the bad ear well behind it.
Www.cochlear.com there are all different types … see the local GP, get sent to your ENT, and ask for NHS funding as it is stopping you from getting jobs etc.

It’s a truly selfish and dangerous thing to do and it’s always done by choice,a very very selfish choice and I rate it the same as drink driving
That’s my point though…is it the same?
Is it as dangerous?
That is exactly what they are wanting us to believe.
If there were 2 situations of pulling or stepping out, in front of somebody on a hand held phone, or another with 9 whiskeys on board, I know who I would take my chances with.
The issue here with the o/p is purely ‘‘hand held’’
Are you saying the level of concentration is increased if he is on hands free?..really?
So what about cb. radio that aint hands free, or even concentrating on an interesting radio programme…that’s entirely hands free, but it takes away an element of concentration on your driving.
I know all this stuff is a bit silly and pedantic…but ‘‘they’’ started it.
I aint got a problem with him being sacked, not from a safety point of view, but from a point of view of he knew the score but was either too stupid or thought he was above the law, no matter how ridiculous that law may or may not be, or whether he you or me agree with it or not.
As for self appointed police officers Bob and Doris grassing him to his firm?
Arse wipes of the highest order.

Most phones come with headphones…if not they are cheap eniugh on ebay ffs!
What makes me laugh us when people have them on loud speaker but then hold it up near their mouth, ffs they really are stupid, they may aswell.hold it to their heads.
Oh and i agree he got what he deserves
Any wired headphone kit for a phone is illegal to use for two reasons.
One it’s in contact with the phone therefore not making it hands free.
Two wearing two earphones is illegal and it makes it harder to hear outside noises.
Both could get you a ticket.
It is not actually illegal to use headphones, just advisable not to. Its only same as having a bluetooth earpiece in yer lug hole.
Also if the phone is voice activated then its only the same as talking to a handsfree device to make a call.
Yes as I posted above it’s not technically illegal but you can be done for it. Having one ear piece in isn’t that same as having two earpieces in though by a long shot.
You are going to have to keep climbing down from the top of the incorrect tree my good man. You can’t be stopped and done for just having earphones in. They have to charge you with a motoring offence that they can say your earphones contributed to. No offence, no ticket. No charge will read simply “had two lugs filled with earphones”
one of ours was sacked after the same offence was photographed while he was driving,he had only been with us as a full timer for a week, sacked on the spot, and fully justified in my opinion,i don’t have hands free and have told numerous people including managers that I will not answer my phone when driving, all it needs is an unmarked to go past you and your nicked, not worth it
More blanket control and indoctrination, as usual.
Am I prepared to accept that using a mobile whilst driving increases the risk of having a crash? Yes, I am. For those of you arguing that it “always used to be fine, then turned dangerous overnight” - so did smoking, and I’m pretty sure that nobody is going to start arguing that smoking being bad for you is a lie. Is it as bad as drink-driving? I have no idea, I just can’t trust the diktats any more.
Another thing we’ve all been drip-fed and swallowed is seat belts. How on earth can it be okay to fine someone for not wearing a PERSONAL safety device?!?! As it happens, I actually prefer to wear one, but it grinds my gears that it’s not a real choice.
The more responsibility that “we” in general remove from individuals, the less that we will be able to cope with. Blanket-banning mobiles in cabs by using signal blocking technology? Whatever next!?
I’d not be surprised that if someone put in some good psychological study on why drivers drive into bridges so much, they’d find a correlation between working for a firm that spoon feeds every single procedure to the driver and having a high rate of bridge strikes. It’s like those videos where you fail to see someone in a bear costume walking through the shot as people are playing basketball, because you’re not looking for it. Instead of being responsible for your route, it’s turn-by-turn off a route sheet, no brainpower or decisions required.
That’s not an argument against sat-nav either, I’m decidedly pro-satnav. If a firm wants a driver to use a specific route, tell them what route to use and why and if they go and do something else, have a word and get rid of them if they can’t manage it. Route planning is a major part of being a lorry driver. Or, if the firm is deadly serious about a driver not using a satnav - take all the spy kit out of the truck, and I’ll happily leave my satnav at home.
Like beaver said, our first thought as drivers should be to back up other drivers.

Smoking was always bad for you, just they decided it was worse after medical proof. Driving on the phone creates death … really is about time the law was changed to prevent phones working say over 10mph auto switches to plane mode so can’t be used.

The smoking analogy is completely different.
Smoking has been unarguably proven beyond any doubt that it is harmful,… using a mobile when driving has not been proven, it’s opinion.
Ok it’s backed up by biased statistics, but nevertheless opinion.

The government has been getting less and less over the last decade in tax from tobacco as less and less people smoke. They have also been receiving less and less from vehicle taxation because emissions are coming down. They are also losing out on fuel duty too as cars now often achieve 50+ mpg so less fuel is purchased.
Mobile phone usage fines are now £200 which is a huge increase for the taxman, and isn’t it interesting that one minute the government wants to reduce pressure on the NHS (smoking) and also wants to reduce congestion and global warming, which are all ’ lovely ’ things, but then starts to realise it’s costing them millions in tax receipts
If they really wanted to stop mobile phone usage behind the wheel, they would make it an immediate 9 points and keep the fine the same. Corrupt bunch of lying and selfish pricks these politicians are, not to mention they can’t keep their hands off each others knees.
One reason i dont think has been mentioned is from notice in one of the places i work.
That states if you get caught using a phone by the police either in a car or truck (in or out of work), the company must tell the TC how they intend to remind drivers about the legality of not using them.
It could be some companies are so terrified of that, they have an instant dismissal policy just incase the TC gets wind.
Actually the agency could also have a policy. The one i use does on this in theory, although if course that has less effect.
Pat Hasler:
I have to agree with you in that he was a total twonk, I see these idiots every day, why the [zb] if you are determined to do such an irresponsible thing as hold a phone to your ear when you are driving would you position it so it can be seen ? I don’t know what the fine is over there but here in the USA it is a $2500.00 fine for your first offence using a hand held phone.
That may be true (as a maximum) in your State, but some States there are no restrictions or only some for new drivers. Texting is banned in most States. The penalties vary hugely too - $20 in California for example

Holding back like this is no good, just state your opinion… …
Oh no. I’ve ’ lost ’ a total strangers support over the internet. Whatever shall I do
The point made regarding the increased fine for using a hand held device was that it is purely for revenue, 9 points plus the existing fine at the time would be a better deterrent. The government have been losing revenue over recent times regarding vehicles, which is why recently road tax was increased on many cars. Tax revenue from smoking is also down. Smoking was used earlier by someone in this thread, which is why I had mentioned it. The government needs tax money so it is all linked.
Drink driving is totally different to using a phone. If I saw someone ■■■■■■ up driving all over the place in a dangerous manner, then I am confident that I would call the police. I have never said " Don’t EVER ’ grass ’ ".
So now we get to the next question; Why are you so angry? Is it envy that you aren’t me? (perfectly understandable). Maybe your wife is getting banged in a fashion that you wish to perform, but don’t have the skills? Or maybe you cant get a partner because you are a small man and have confidence issues?
Either way I don’t really care mate, but I hope you find a way to stop getting so worked up. It’s bad for your blood pressure
