Sacked for making a h&s suggestion

I suppose it was a bit rich coming from the same pallet network that allows Jumbo Bags of stones, sand etc weighing in excess of 1000kg to be placed onto pallets, knowing full well that the destination is a private address. Thats all well and good if there is a forklift at the destination but i cant ever recall anyone ever having one parked up in their driveway when i’ve arrived. Yes I have a tail lift but its wrong and dangerous to expect a driver to get these pallets off their truck and into a customers driveway on his own IMO, yet they seem to get away with it. :imp: :imp:

What utter crap. You can safely move over 1.5t with a pallet truck.

Of course you can, and if it goes wrong its expensive…

I was working for a big pallet company near coalville in Leicestershire, (SILVER UNITS AND TRAILERS) most of you will know by now who im on about.
What i asked was there a suggestion box as most or some big professional outfits have them.
What my suggestion was is why do you have to drive round the yard with you hazards lights on.
I was told to be seen, i then told this chap that hazards lights should only be used really when stationery as stated in the highway code.
I also pointed out that when you are following around the yard you can not see what the truck in front is going to do, a valid point as i thought as im Rospa (gold) bike and car trainer, and a fully qualified ADI driving instructor.
NOT SO BECAUSE IM A AGENCY WORKER IT WAS NICE AND BIG OF THEM TO SAY TO MY AGENCY NOT TO SEND ME THERE AGAIN, AND BAND ME FROM SITE… :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:
A VALID POINT OR NOT…

Thats similar when i got banned by Pallex for not going out with overloaded Last Axle.
My transshipment slows Operation down, they said

We all have to abide by site rules, follow the rules and pi55 off when the jobs done.

Some people have just got to always push the boundaries, even after they’ve been told before. Take your post for example, you’re using 55 instead of ss in an attempt to dodge the censor when ■■■■ off work perfectly fine.

WTF are you on? I didn’t want to say ■■■■ OFF, I thought pi55 off was not as crude. If ■■■■ OFF is an acceptable word then what is your problem with me now? You ■■■■■■ of because I didn’t use the word ■■■■? I didn’t dodge the censor because it isn’t censored. DOH.
Sad

The very word ‘Agency’ tells the whole reason, you were not a full time employee and if he didn’t want some ‘Agency’ driver comming in and dictating the rules. Try and keep you lips sealed at a client in future and get a proper job thats not agency.

OK, that’s real nice. I’m extremely happy for you Mike.

Try driving a wagon round a yard when you have oversize borrowed from the site luminous orange overalls on, a hard hat, safety specs, ear defenders and gloves on. :unamused:

we looking at most of that crap, yes i said most, it looks as if i must be a 2nd class citizen as a agency driver then…
glad to see there are some professional outfits still out there…

BHS ATHERSTONE there driver assessor was quite shocked to ear what happened to me.

ALL SO THATS WHY THIS TRUCKING GAME IS IN A MESS AND A ■■■■ JOB, NO BODY STICKS TO-GATHER, NEVER HAS NEVER WILL…
I ALSO CAN SEE THE PRICKS THAT HAVE ONLY PASSED THE LGV TEST…

Agency driver was not “sacked” but what tipper and machine drivers would call “off-hired”…presumably you still work for the driver agency?

i dont think the fact that your agency is the issue here, its more to do with the fact that you seem to think your in a position to tell other people what to do…weather or not thats because your in rospa i dont know…

Nobody is saying that,
but, as an agency driver, you are “dispensable” (should you be unsuitable/rock the boat)

IF it is company policy that you drive around with “hazards” on, then that is what you do, doesn’t matter what it says in the highway code.

IF you are following someone around the yard and are unsure of their intentions, then just hang back and wait and “see” which way they are going.

Not hard is it

It is “company policy” at Sainsburys Bristol to lock your cab and hand over your keys to the forkie (whilst being tipped off the side under the canopy) ,
You could argue till you were blue in the face (if you were that way inclined) about how stupid/pointless it is, but the only response from the forkie would be,

“company policy”, No keys, No tip

i did`nt write that

Sure you can move over 1.5t with a pallet truck safely, provided you are on a smooth and flat surface. Its a different story trying to position a pallet of that weight onto the tail lift platform, then get the pallet onto a pavement and into someones garden path, If its as easy as you suggest, why do builders merchants bother buying trucks with a hiab at great expense when they could just buy a tail lift truck instead. Maybe you are built like Geoff Capes and wouldn’t have a problem with that kind of drop, but i’m certainly not.

I popped 2 vertebrae in my back pulling pallets of melons a few years back…Sod that. If it feels too heavy when you pump the pallet up…It stays down.

do you suffer from small man syndrome?

you keep banging on about all of us think agency drivers are a bunch of idiots

no we don’t

did you ever stop and think that it might just be you?

i am ex-agency myself, having worked for some major companies all the way through to small 3-4 vehicle fleets, and i have never had a problem such as this

the first thing you need to remember is, YOU ARE NOT EMPLOYED BY THIS COMPANY!!!

they tend not to like it when a casual relief driver/staff start telling them how to run things

just learn from this, and in future, no matter what thoughts you have about the company that you are driving for through the agency, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND JUST GET ON WITH WHAT YOU ARE BEING PAID TO DO

When you’ve got a yard full of trucks that all look the same, the ones with the flashing orange lights at each corner are the ones that draw your attention. (unless twenty drivers are doing pre-shift checks at once :grimacing: ). But anyway the rules are hazards on in the yard, so as you come through the gate flick them on. Simples.

Steve. You are not the H&S guy for this company, you are a temporary worker, they already have a Rospa Gold bloke with a cycling proficiency badge. He has overruled you. Sorry

You’re paid to go on for 7 hours…Most don’t give a ■■■■ because they’re there out of necessity and not out of choice. If DCPC wasn’t law, you’d be agency driving a lot more…or not as the case maybe.
