Two lads at my mates place have been finished for fighting, I say finished as one quit and the other was sacked. It all started as a bit of a misunderstanding as usual. One was told to take a unit to pick up a trailer, the unit was also to be used by the other for his night trunk. The night guy phoned him to ask how long he would be, the day guy didn’t like the way he was spoken to. It all escalated from there to fisticuffs outside the gate last Thursday.
It just got me thinking, they’ve both lost decent paying jobs, taking home around £500 a week, over something that could have been avoided, they didn’t even work the same shift. Is there anyone at your place you would lose your job over? Especially by fighting. Over the years I have worked with plenty I’ve have not liked or got on with, I just avoid them as much as possible.
FYI the jobs, and that of another that got sacked, he walked off the job and left the unit & trailer at a customers yard, have been posted on the jobs section.
A few years ago a guy got sacked where I work although it was me who hit him ( & put him on his backside ) boss found out what happened & sacked him I stayed

Nope. S/E and I have as little do do with other drivers as possible, apart from a few friends that do the job.
Bet their both sitting at home now feeling like prats.
I had a huge agruement which very, very nearly ended up in a fight with another driver at my last place a few days before i left, only reason i didnt hit him was because i didnt know if i my new firm were gonna call for a reference. Im not an aggressive person but 6months of sheer abuse and by then i didnt give a toss.
Always thought it grossly unfair if someone physically attacked was fired, i’d be straight into an unfair dismissal claim should it happen to me.
The one who throws the first punch when the case is clear cut is or should be history, there is no room for this type of bullying any more in the workplace.
Seeing as the fisticuffs took place outside the gate in this case, i fail to see what business it is of the company, unless either was still in work time.
If violence is the only resort, and sometimes this can be the case, then well away from work and agree a time and place, that usually sees the bully of the argument vanish unless he can come up with some equally moronic mates.
Seems a bit silly but there are too many drivers think the lorry is theirs and that they are the boss. If the day driver has had a stressful day and the night man is taking the ■■■■ or moaning at him, then he probably deserved a slap.
The OP said, he was told to take a trailer, so the bloke who told him should have rung the dayman.
I posted on here probably a year ago how a gobby foreman thought I’d accept his verbal abuse because he worked for a good customer. He actually threatened to pull me out of the cab because I wasn’t interested in his ranting, to which I offered to put my steel toecapped boot between his eyes if he touched me or the lorry.
Our rep went schizo but planners did nothing until they’d spoken to a couple of witnesses. One had been given abuse but just sat and listened. No disciplinary, no telling off just an apology from office that I’m not paid to take crap from anyone.
But what if my boot had met his forehead??

Or in company uniform
Was doing à changeover at carnforth when à driver from my company, (although i was agency) noticed and objected to my dog in the cab. I told him mind his own business, this driver then got in a blinding rage.
Well, ill be honest, i was knocked on my arse. not one of my finest moments in my career. The things i use to do for that cab mutt.
Isn`t fighting for the school playground?
Once you become an adult, there are a multidue of ways in which to settle a disagreement.

I would poss object to you dog being in the cab as well ( dont rally like dogs ) as wouldnt want the dog hair all over but wouldnt fight over it as it not worth it
Didn’t realise it was the company concerned until I read the vacancy.
Are they not on the TVTE anymore?
I used to work for the company that used to take stuff into there on a daily basis, as they were our subby for the north east, and I knew the owner through that, and was on my way there the day I had my accident just around the corner.

I would also object to a dog being In the cab If I had to share the truck (dayman/nightman), but I wouldn’t ‘fight’ you over It. I’d just report you to the boss & I wouldn’t take the truck out until all the dog-hair had been cleaned up…
jesus what a bunch of kids drivers have become I wont take out the truck because -----dog been in cab ,day/night man smokes ,cabs dirty inside ffs are the bosses all wimps nowadays!!
If i had whined at the office about the above and said im not taking it out till cleaned i would have been told you want the job or not!plenty drivers looking…
on the big plan of life none of the above are worth more than a minutes thought, you have a job can pay the bills… doghair in the cab and youll grass a fellow driver up.jeessss. TF im out o the UK and working wi drivers again not bloody kids.
jimmy.hgv class of 81.
They were on TVTE until last October I think, moved up to Washington as they keep getting bigger and needed more space. Same family run it with the same boss.
As far as I know they were both still at work when it kicked off, it had been building for a couple of months apparently. Day man just clocked on and the night man not yet clocked off.
It’s funny A dog should come up, my mate tells me the night guy had just been told he could not take his dog with him anymore, someone had complained it made their allergies worse.
The state the cab is left in is another ball game and covered many times on here.
Fighting has always been a sacking offence in the workplace.
Sad, grown men that can not communicate with their mouths but result in fists like a monkey from Longleat safari park, if i saw them i would throw my banana skins at them.

That will be the least of their worries … can you imagine the reaction when SWMBO finds out
“my” cab?
These problems don’t wind you up when you’re paid by the hour.
Everyone else at work can waste as much of my time at work as they like, since I’m being paid for it all.
On the other hand, if someone buggers me about off work’s time and premises, then I’ll just involve the police if it’s serious enough, or let it go altogether if it’s not.
Stress-avoidance comes in many shapes and forms, but not socialising with the rest of the workforce goes a long way towards it.
Lady P - The boss was lucky not to have had a case of ■■■■■■ discrimination brought against him.
This is assuming of course that the guy you decked was NOT accosting you in the ladies at the time you hit him! If he was, then fair dues!

Scottish or Italian here?
The difference is to weather one gets one’s heed kicked in, or getting one’s head keeked in.
