S Cooper, Winsford

Any info on this company, folks?

Lets just say that if they’re as accommodating as they appear on the phone, our place won’t have any HGV drivers in a week or 2

I don’t think you can expect a brand new motor if you work for them…

I was told that you should put pooper in front of the name - but the guy did have a bone to pick with them.

hiya …in the 80s Coopers was by far the best driving job going even with a 7 year old KM.they then lost the Metal box contract(not coopers faut)
Metal box relocated from 3 London factories to 1 in speak and 2 others moved to Hull( loss of loads homeward bound) that was a big loss to Coopers.
on the new lorry scene i had 2 new lorries within 6 months while i was working for them in the 80,s. transport has slipped badly since then and
i think Coopers have gone down that slippery slope.a big pity as it was a good firm to work for.

I’ll go see what they have to say. A good motor isn’t always necessarily a new motor, and I’m dying to break into class 1 work

Hiya Coopers run the drivers at 18 on the hgv training scheme… maybe you could have driven on that scheme years ago.

If your after your first class 1 job take what is offered, then you can start looking because you will have experience and once in somewhere you will hear about other jobs.

Sometimes see one of there artic`s collecting in Sanquhar, and they have still got,Ithink, the contract with Henkel at Winsford.

I’ve no doubt I can do it, but don’t want to be thrown in at the deep end. 18 months since I’ve even sat in an artic, the day of my test.

I was in a similar situation. I got my class 1 but drove rigids for two and a half years before actually driving one again. I was fine driving forwards but certainly needed practise reversing, thankfully the firm I was with at the time supported me with it. If S Cooper deal a lot with young drivers you might be in luck, although don’t be surprised if you start off in a rigid.

Fine by me. Drive one every day as it is

I’d go for it mate but ask them to be honest about how much class 1 work they actually have going. If they only have a limited amount you might find yourself at the back of a long queue and stuck in a rigid for ages, or only getting out in an artic once every blue moon which isn’t ideal. Much better to be working for a company that runs both though.

Dunno if you have checked their website scooper.co.uk/fleet.htm

Its the worst job I’ve ever had!

Bad people. Arrogant.

Bad Trucks. 6 different units in 2 weeks

Bad Money. £8 per hour 55 hours. Over time after 55 hours £8.50 but your suposed to get bonus on what the truck earns but when you speak to the driver you don’t get any bonus until you’ve worked there a couple of years.

If you need the experience, go for it.

Decided to stay where I am. Although I have no proof, it would appear that the guy suggesting that “we” go work for them, was in fact more interested in my HGV rate, and my shiny class 2 truck.

Didn’t help that someone from the said company, no idea who, although an ex employee at our place drives for them, rang my current TM to inform him that I’d enquired about working for them.

That’s a proper ■■■■ take if you ask me.

Well,I don’t really know…
As my son could not find a job locally in the Stoke area, he was prepared to travel out of the area, 50 mile round trip. and rang them one Friday morning about 6 months ago. he said he had a class 2,fork lift licence and ADR.
Oh come up and see us said the man.
He went up there in the morning, had a good interview and the bloke said he’d ring my boy in the afternoon to say whether or not he had a job.
As usual, no return phone call, so after 4 pm my boy is on the 'phone, this bloke is not available, in fact he was not available for all of the following week! ■■■■■■!
Was the fact he didn’t get a job a blessing in disguise?
