Quite the bridge bash today, they managed to bend the steel bridge girder and move the track. Line will be closed for a few days, maybe a week. A skip lorry working for Rutland Council the culprit.
The authority said: “Rutland County Council will be reviewing the incident with its waste contractor, Biffa.”
That will be from North Luffenham Biffa site ,that will another bin for refurbishment.
No sympathy as driver was a t fault.
It looking at the damaged caused to the bridge /tracks couldn’t of been that strong .
Unless dri er was going asome speed through there but even so
Biffa driver in a hurry…surely not they come to collect at some of our stores…if they can’t get in immediately…they take photo’s of the locked gate or whatever, and go thrashing off to their next destination.
You would think being that close to home the driver would be familiar with the bridge but then again that’s partly the problem, the closer to base some drivers are the less attention they pay sometimes.
An operator near us had a driver coming into land at night & hit a 15’3" bridge less than a mile from the operating centre, they used the lorries own Hiab to put the machine back on quickly & “hushed it up” apparently.
Half Derbyshire knew about it by the weekend though.
Another driver only made it a few hundred yards out of their yard in a different location & demolished a 14’ bridge, this was temporarily repaired & is now being fixed permanently.
The local paper had a field day with this one.
