The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency says it has learned that the Russian government plans to charge visiting trucks over 3.5 tonnes to use Russian Federation roads. The Russian government issued a decree on 24 December to introduce charges based on the time spent in the country. The cost will be 385 Roubles for a day, 1,154 for a week, 5,000 for a month and 60,000 for a year. At the border a trucker will need to say how long the vehicle will be in the country and then pay in advance. The truck will only allowed out if the driver shows evidence that the appropriate charge has been paid to the Federal Service on Transport Control.
