What is it with the current trend for running out of fuel on the motorway? Almost everyday there are breakdowns in roadworks and so many of these seem to be fuel related, certainly if you believe the stats shown on the side of the M60. Seeing people at the side of the road walking with a Jerry can now quite a common sight. Why are people so stupid?
In my opinion, the ‘free recovery’ in roadworks should become chargeable & expensive in such cases.
[/quote]You know that free recovery thing only means they drag u away from their roadworks and dump you in the next suitable place
I know, i’d charge/fine people for having to be moved out of the roadworks having caused untold delays for everybody else because of a breakdown thats entirely their fault.

You can’t beat a game of fuel light bingo.Have you ever lost the game in a wagon …and had to make the call of shame to the planners/TM ?
Does a coach with a dodgy fuel gauge count?

Most of the firms I have worked for over the years would , quite rightly, sack you on the spot for running out of fuel, no excuse whatsoever to run out of fuel in a truck…

I’ve never driven any vehicle or item of plant with a dodgy fuel gauge. Even Foden 3000s fuel gauges were accurate, which is more than can be said for their rev counters (I don’t think I ever drove one that worked).

I think Smiths of Gloucester should do DCPC courses.
I have learned more here then any previous company. Other firms should send their moaning drivers here for DCPC. We would teach them the ‘crack on drive’ course.
a very long time ago (early 80s) I ran out, I flagged down the next truck that came along, we syphoned out a couple of gallon, I bled the system and got to the next station … can’t imaging that happening now, the ■■■■ in the next truck would probably mow you down.
its a sackable offence at my gaff to run out of fuel.
got told it counts as gross misconduct or something

I’m on the other side, I get moaned at if the fuel is to expensive, like we have BP cards & the boss moans like hell if I fill up & a normal garage not a garage with dedicated HGV pumps as he says he then has to pay the tower price not the bunker price which is about 25p a litre cheaper

We het 6p litre off with our Shell card regardless of whether they’re local garages or services. Being on tippers mean we can get under low canopies and leave the hgv ones to those drivers doing their shopping/costa/hanging the job out.
