rumour control

That is what they were built for. We trunk to cairnryan and they go to Belfast to have the loads transhipped onto single deckers. The first to grace the depot had a tail lift! That has made the doors too wide for the loading bays. The internal floor stops short so the dock leveller can’t reach it. It has a double swan neck which is impossible to load. The upper deck has to be loaded using a lift inside which can only be operated via buttons on the outside making it a 2 man job. Stenaline took one to trial it and said its too tall and takes too long to get it off the boat at Belfast. Now we have this new height limit coming in which supposedly only affects trailers built after a certain date which has already passed. These new ones have only arrived from fraserburgh in the last few weeks. I don’t know who signed to have these built but there may be a job vacancy coming up soon

As of the 1st of November maximum height in Ireland is going to be 4.65m

We send 3 deckers which are all between 4.85m and 4.93m to Ireland every night. 2 Dublin and 1 Belfast. Might bugger us up a bit then.

But loads of companies are going to be in the same position. McBurney, Royal Mail, Marks & Spencer, Argos to name just some, send Deckers over.

I belive that Belfast and Dublin are in northern Ireland .

Well i never new that

Put this one to bed, there is an EU ruling on maximum trailer heights and has been for a number of years, the UK has opted out from that ruling and on UK work there is no maximum height limit, however any loads over 16 foot 6 inch are taking a risk (minimum new bridge height on motorways and A roads, motorways now work on 20 foot) and all loads over 17 foot are notifiable as abnormal loads - and trust me you do not want to route loads via the high load routes. High loads are a far greater pain in the arse than heavy or wide
