Little did he know he was talking to a dairy farmer’s son!

some say you can’t do anything while on break? like clean your mirrors, or put polish on your tank ect

You can’t.

even though it states in the vosa book you must be able to freely dispose of your time, which in my book means i can do what i like so long as it ain’t to do with paid work :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

It doesn’t say that in the VOSA book regarding break, you are reading the wrong bit. It says that for rest but not for break, they are different with different criteria.

‘break’ means any period during which a driver may not
carry out any driving or any other work and which is
used exclusively for recuperation
‘rest’ means any uninterrupted period during which a
driver may freely dispose of his time;

well got pulled by vosa on detling hill about a month ago, actually pulled in the layby half way down the hill and their galaxy pulled infront told m8y i needed break, he said no problem just follow me up hill you can have it there,
pulled in told the guy wheel tapping i needed a break he said ask the chap who was going to check my cards if it was ok, he said no problem so went on break while they check the truck and my cards, had the half hour they had finished after 25 mins and told me i could go when ever i had finished my break. so makes a mockery of it really :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Why? Perfect situation for a break. You weren’t driving and weren’t working while they did their thing so meets the criteria for a break. Wiggling the wheel was reccuperation for your arm muscles.

with regard to the engine running on our company if you leave it running or just have the ignition on the line is slightly thicker which could mean you were working a break. on the transporters engine running with pto engaged. and some of the older motors had tremble tacho’s so they could tell if you were working

The truck wont start if it hasn’t got a digital card in, that is why they have workshop cards

Source or another mmtm? All the ones I’ve driven recently start without a digi card in. First priority is to start up and get the fire going before anything else! ! !

Half asleep here. Thought you were being serious for a change.

I’ve adopted a new philosophy in regard to BS, I now join in and come out with the most far fetched stuff I can, this seems to fuel their fire and they then come out with some really outrageous comments, then realise that they’ve gone way over the top and that they’re talking complete bollox and go silent

I used to start rumours of my own when I was in the office, usually telling a select few drivers that we were getting new motors, top of the range Scanias usually, used to get them all sucking up big time

I heard when digi’s first came out that the truck disabled itself after 10 hours driving so you didnt break the law… :open_mouth:

If you break down in Europe there is a bloke called Les Routier who will help you out, he lives in various different countries from France, Italy Spain and Belgium :stuck_out_tongue:

I could fill a page with misinformed crap a tacho analyst has told me, but obviously I can’t put his name, especially since he has already threatened me with legal action twice for defamation just because I questioned his plainly wrong interpretation of the law.

You can’t have nights out in a cab you can’t stand up in.

  1. Scania’s are driven in a considerate manner without their front fog lamps on and not looking like a Christmas tree.

  2. A second period of P.O.A before a break is taken is not considered.

  3. And the latest one, V.O.S.A have a device that they can plug into your truck which tells them if you left your depot with a defective light or E.B.S fault, and then issue an on the spot fine. Brilliant.

.

haha…the 4th on is correct, V.O.S.A have a device that they can plug into your truck which tells them if you left your depot with a defective light or E.B.S fault,"…its called a OBD reader, you can use them on on cars or trucks to read fault codes but will only read the EBS/ABS FAULTS and not lighting on vehicle

Mate of mine has just started back driving after a long break.
The other day, he was wittering on about this “not being able to take a break in the driver’s seat” thing. :unamused: So I pipped up and started telling him all of the driver’s myths that I could think of

He texted me yesterday saying he’s thinking of having a row with his boss, as he wont buy a high roof unit, and surely he’ll get a slap from VOSA, if they find out he’s tramping 5 nights a week! :unamused:

And the old chesnut about getting the old bill out to cone off your bay for a break.

It’s illegal to have 9 hrs off in the yard and you can’t do 3 15’s in a row are my favourites

But you can PM it to me or another member and I will pick the bones out of it in a separate thread.
