So on the M1 north yesyerday morning ,Luton,a car had cam off the carriageway.Everyone had to slow down to have a look.I tried a new tactic.I slowed down a few hundred yards before the incident, waited for all the car drivers to finish having a look, then accelerated away so by the time I got to the scene,I was up to 40mph hoping the cars behind would follow. I looked in my mirror.all the cars bunched up again trying to see what happened, pathetic, and the worst of,all the traffic leading up to the accident cutting in like nobodys business, some cars and trucks even going through the red X signs,I give up…
didnt you know that when you pass a crashed audi your supposed to slow down as a sign of respect to thier superiour driving ability and elite status. same with mercs and bmw’s thats why every accident has a line f rubber neckers because there is always an audi merc or bmw involved

Don’t bother…
Trying to corral, herd, direct or educate them, it’s pointless, just concentrate on making sure you don’t clout the guy in front of you and get going as fast as you can. They’ll always be like this and sadly, more and more commercial vehicles are doing it too.
Well it’s difficult getting a good photo when you’re going fast
I had a thought last time I encountered the m1 shut on the opposite carriageway. If, once the road is completely closed, all the emergency vehicles turned off their blue lights, then the other carriageway would be much less distracted.
Genius or what?

It’s mental isn’t it? The same people that are supposed to be helping are actually causing a huge distraction, i can’t stand them lights at the best of times but when there’s 10 of them all with them going it makes them look ■■■■■■■ stupid
If Theres a crash something that shuts one side of a motorway.
Or even one that shuts a couple of lanes.
Surely somehow the highways men could carry some kind of foldable portable screen . That they Can erect around the accident so when your driving past you can’t see anything. Nothing to see traffic would move normally.

They already have portable screens for fatalities.

I’m just thinking that flicking a switch off is easier and quicker to do than erecting a screen. Plus if any blue lights are still visible, the rubberneckers are still going to slow down, desperate for a look even if they can’t see anything.
I just did a speed awareness course, fair enough, a lack of concentration. I watch countless drivers, even some HGV, (no PSV perhaps) driving past the red X’s. I like to think that they get caught and appropriately punished but I don’t think that they do. I think it’s the same offense as going through a red traffic light. Are they getting done?

If there’s a speed camera on that actual gantry with a red X then yes it could be set to 0mph and will flash a vehicle in that lane. But there are many gantries without the speed camera at the side.
What annoys me is when they put on the red X in advance of lanes closed by cones or physical road signs saying lane closed in 800yds etc. Either have one thing or the other! Not conflicting signs. The correct electronic sign would be an arrow meaning lane closed ahead. They are just like the traffic Nazis that stop you merging in turn at the correct point.

They put the matrix signs on the M4 saying red X enforced a month or so ago and I have seen instances where the flash were going off for closed lanes, when they had cones out overnight around J11.
If they…
Can make money out of a misdemeanor using a camera, an algorithm and minimum effort, they will.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with road safety, it has everything to do with road revenue.
Who cares?
As long as the ■■■■■ that go through them have the bother of paying £100,thats good enough for me
