Royal Mail work- WHEN?

Paul-H:
If you do work for them (Manpower) do be careful of the mandatory deductions. Up to 8hrs of work they deduct 45min, after that they take 1hour from your time.

Then take it dear Paul, take it

There’s a hole in this job

its not manpower, its RM that dictate this. but you wont get any less than 8 hours pays or you shouldnt, if you do youve been bumped by your manpower office.

Worked at Langley last year 12hr shifts 4 on 4 off, had 1.5hrs deducted from each day. The RM Duty sheet specified a 1.5hr break and looking at it either of them went by the Duty Sheet for payment.

yep that sound about right for them, thing is during a shift you will have more than 1.5 hours of doing absolutly sod all, when i used to run out of perth i would waste 3 hours a night…in bed yet would only lose 1.5 hours a day. cant grumble at that tbh

:open_mouth: i signed up with manpower maidstone bout 2 years ago when they were advertising for xmas drivers i never did get anywork off of them i kept ringing them every week . if i was u id look around for something else to cover yourself

also with parcel force and RM you get paid 8 hours even if you only do 1 hours work…hasnt happended yet for me as been out for 8 hours all week even in the snow…

Only if they don’t require you any longer, it’s rare that it happens though, if u walk after an hour that’s all you get

Dont even get me started on manpower. Complete waste of time. Never had a day of rm work with them. Got a job paying 40k for a 35 hr week now but it aint driving trucks lol

I replied to the Slough office for drivers, had a appt booked but had to cancel and then a few days later as i happened to be in Slough i went in to see if i could complete the registration. I was told that you ‘have’ to make an appointment and they were busy training to see me that day. Lets see now, train or sign up a driver who can earn you money, i know what i’d do. Never mind I went to another agency why get the RM shifts anyway, so Manpower can go and whistle or words to that effect.

I’m doing RM work at Crick through Manpower. It took me eight weeks to get an assessment drive, (but should have been a lot quicker )then straight in to 8 hour duties the very next day. It’s easy clean work, all rollcages (yorks) or RSCs (stillages), but can be difficult to keep to their schedules especially on customer collections, but that doesn’t matter as you’re paid by the hour. £9 something an hour or £12 something depending on time of day or £16 on Sundays. There’s no sitting around, but you’ll need to ask lots of questions to suss out how it all works. Drivers are all friendly and will give you plenty of advice if you need it, even for a begiinner like me. You’ll be driving most likely a well maintained Daf CF85 auto or maybe a hired-in Daf XF auto, pulling a box trailer, curtainsider, 75 york double decker or a 92 york double decker, for which they’ll give you a short training session. Manpower seem ok to me. They won’t pull you off RM work as there seems to be loads of it right now. And I’m not aware of them docking pay either. Hope that helps a little.
Btw, the right “attitude” seems to go a long way in the driver assessment.

Right now some of the depots are having problems with space due to the weather lol, ur unlikely to unload/load your trailer but it doesn’t hurt to give them a hand unless they tell you to wait in ur cab, the best attitude is just let them get on with it,

Thanks for all the info lads

it took 5 weeks for me to get a call from manpower and i told them i was no longer interested. did they really think i was sat there waiting for them? no thanks!
