Ive managed to get a bit of work at royal mail doing class 2 work, is this pretty straight forward work ?
Its quite often harder than the class 1 work but it’s still pretty simple.
You’re more likely to be doing runs to delivery offices or customer collections. Max of 26 cages per trip (instead of up to 110 with some trailers) but you get less loading time so might find yourself up against the clock a bit more. Where you working out of?
They take longer to get there than the class 1 drivers

I’d imagine you’d mainly be working out of Medway Mail Centre doing runs to the delivery offices in the TN, CT, ME and DA postcode areas.
Are the routes all mapped out for you ?
1st class job

Each depot do things differently. They do have sat navs built in to the trucks but they’re pretty ■■■■.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a printed map as there should be one available.
I did some agency work for them, good money easy money but what a crowd of assoles to work with.Good luck as they say different depots do things their way.

You will get full training. When with the trainer ask how to use the Isotrak satnav (Not the best)
Just stick to the 318 and you should be OK.
Most class 2 is customer collections.
You get 20 mins loading/unloading, same as the boxes.
There are printed maps in your pack but these are generally not the best. If my collection has been cancelled and I’m asked to go somewhere I don’t know, I hope it’s class 2. I use google maps and write it down as it’s easy to turn around in a class 2 vehicle.
Nothing but good lads/lasses, but we can be very stubborn/headstrong when needed. Some people class that as assoles.

The evening work is best - run down to Medway Mail Centre, and pick up all work for places like PRDC (Park Royal), Hatfield, or there’s even a few evening runs up to NDC (DIRFT).
Afternoon work will likely be customer collections from the local business estates.
Early Morning work is often running Medway Mail centre “feeders” into the smaller RM offices around kent.
I spent the 90’s there doing an evening run around the london stations, until I could pick into an artic duty for 2000-2010 at which point I left for the MTSF payoff.
I’d argue that of the different rigid duties at varying firms one can get involved with - RM represents the most do-able. NO loads of paperwork, poncy organizer devices, and constant hassles from planners - like one might get at other places running rigids. Just roll on and roll off the wheeled york containers, with the occasional pump-trucked pallets thrown in.

What is the procedure for medway do you just buzz and tell them your duty number and they tell you what bay to go onto ?
You turn up at the buzzer, and give them your service & duty number. They will give you a bay to go on there and then. Eg. “I’m on 2026 NDC Duty 605” - “Ok, Bay 29 please”…
If collecting, the yorks will be in a line as near to the bay they give you as possible. If dumping, it will be on the bays to the right as you go in the entrance.
My favourite duty numbers are the ones starting with ‘6’ - the night duties of course. You might find afternoon customer collections starting with a ‘4’ to your liking, or perpahs a rigid run to somewhere like PRDC. The ‘2’ duties are “earlies”, which I have as little to do with as possible, so can’t comment on the exact content of, other than suggest that there’s a fair amount of feeder runs into rural offices around breakfast time.
