Roy Bowles crying for drivers.
Some companies have no problems attracting drivers, but some such as Roy Bowles seem to struggle.
Maybe if for that 28K a year, Roy Bowles treated his drivers with respect and didn’t, as I suspect push them to max their hours every week, he wouldn’t be struggling to retain them and attract new ones.
The cost of getting a class 1 licence has nothing to do with it, treat drivers as valuable staff and not one will ever leave, unless retiring.
Is that the one near Heathrow, at Slough?

The cost of the license is “one” of the reasons. That is the first thing that many young people see before they even ask what the actual industry is like.
They always want someone else to pay the bills don’t they?, I noticed Bowles said young would be drivers don’t have £3/5,000 to spare, which is true, so in that case why doesn’t HE pay towards their licence? not all but perhaps half with an 18 month commitment, or does he want fully experienced truckers with years of experience under their belt as most do?.
The operators are in part responsible for their own misfortune, they seized on the East European influx as Manna from heaven, it was a good opportunity to keep wages as low as possible and they seized it with both hands, and now the supply off Ski’s/Igors is drying up and its dawning on them that slightly more expensive but LOYAL staff might have been the way to go.
And of course we have the cretins we elect to “lead” us, who bring in ever more rules and regulations to use to beat the poor old driver with, costing us more and more money just to do our job, the latest piece of lunacy being the Drivers CPC farce, they were told that it would lead to experienced drivers leaving the industry, but no!!, they knew better, between the owners and the government it seems to be a race to see who can damage the transport industry the most.
You also have the contempt the media hold us in, if for instance you see a report of an RTA involving a truck and a car, the insinuation is always that the truck driver is to blame, we are treated like dirt at places like Morrisons frozen at jct 41 where we were not allowed to use the canteen (I don’t know if you still cant) I have been refused toilet use “we don’t let drivers use our toilets” and things like this, its hardly going to attract kids is it?.
