Route Friedrichshafen - Offenburg

Got to come back from Friedrichshafen

Best route appears to be E54/A98, E41/A81

Then E531 to Offenburg

Don’t really know it down there - it will be a night drive, and the E531 looks quite twisty?

Being an “E” road, is it safe to assume it will be ok for HGV?

Now the daft question - is the E531 subjet to the Maut? Seems to be a “B” road?

Thanks in advance…

yes it is twisty and you will pass through he famous
black-forest cuckoo clock area,DO NOT SPEED
as they have cameras andpolice will be about,
I belive that the last bit,that is the E531 should BE
FREE ,how are you doing the maut with a OBU
unit or booking, as both methods wil tell you when
you are either booking the route by hand or the OBU
will tell you toll free, by the way at exit (AUSFAHRT)
38 is a shell garage with a little imbiss,worth a vist
parking for about 25-30lorrys,

hope this is a help to you,

Thanks……

Doing the Maut manually on a UTA card — haven’t been picking up enough euro work to justify an obu. This makes it a complete pain in the backside!

Delivery point Friday is Wolfegg, nr Leutkirch. So I was planning on going Strasbourg/Stuttgart/Ulm.

Sunday collection will be Wolfegg or Friedrichshafen (depends if they can find me safe parking at Friedrichshafen on Saturday so I can sit out the ban).

If collection is Wolfegg, I’ll go back via Ulm.

If its Friedrichshafen, then the E531 route doesn’t sound a bundle of laughs at night - do you reckon it would be easier to night drive up to Stuttgart ? My route plan then takes me back down to Strasbourg then up to Metz, unless you know a better way to cut across to Saarbruken?

You are adding a lot of kilometres, and time, if you go to and from Stuttgart via Strasbourg. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: From Stuttgart to Saarbrucken I would go A8 - A5 north, exit at Karlsruhe Mitte, then through Karlsruhe onto the A65. Leave it at the Landau Nord exit onto the B10 and follow this through Pirmasens. Once through there you get back onto the A8 then switch onto the A6 toward Saarbrucken. If you are heading to Calais from Stuttgart I wouldn’t be going anywhere near Metz and instead of going onto the A6 I would stay on the A8 into Luxembourg for the cheaper fuel.

The only problem with that route is they now have a night restriction on the B10 so it may not be an option. If that is the case and you really want to go via Metz you don’t need to go all the way back down to Strasbourg to come back up again.

Go down the A5 and come of at the, I think it is the Baden Baden exit but it is for the B500 anyway. Follow this and you will cross the Rhine into France at a very small border. The road changes to the D4 and will take you to the A35. Take this southbound and a couple of exits later take the N63 toward Haguenau. From there you follow the road round, I can’t remember the numbers but you will see it on a map, and pick up the A4 a lot higher up than at Strasbourg

IF YOU ARE GOING TO come across at STRASBOURG;
THEN WHY NOT GO VIA THE ROAD E531 to the A81
AND THEN SINGEN;FREDRICHSHAFEN;LINDAU
UP TO THE CUSTOMER AT wolfegg.leutkirch
on the last bit from LINDAU is a truckstop
it is at EXIT 10 on the A96 E43–E54
THIS IS SHORTER AND LESS MAUT

DEPENDING ON YOUR LOAD IT IS WORTH USEING THE E531
AS IT IS WELL BUILT AND YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY;

by THE WAY HAVE YOU GOT SNOW-CHAINS:AND ALSO GOOD TYRES
PREFERBLEY WINTER TYPE; AS WHEN THE WEATHER IS BAD
DOWN THAT PART OF GERMANY LOTS OF ROADS REQUIRE
WINTER EQUIPEMENT;ALSO THE GERMANS HAVE MADE IT LAW THAT
VEHICLES ARE OKAY FOR WINTER CONDITIONS;

There is no snow at present but give it another two -three weeks and the
weatherr will change,

any more questions just post them.

Many thanks for the advice.

Definitely going via Lux both out/inbound (via Lille etc).

Sort of decided to go the E531 route. Mainly becasue I can do it in daylight on the way down. Then I’ll night drive it on the way back

The route via Pirmasens is definitely one to use in the future. I would have opted for that if it wasn’t for the night ban.

Everything would be easier with an OBU! I’ve spent an age working out junctions etc!!

I guess you think I’m mad going via Metz and paying the French toll, but it looks easier to me for this run taking time constraints into account. Its also a route I know, and less time frigging around with Maut machines!

Thanks again

IF you go via LUX come out via REMICH–PEARL
DOWN TO saarbrucken…pirmesens.–landau
karlsruhe-stuttgart–ulm down to wolfegg
is also an option,THE NIGHT BAN ON THE B10
is from 2200hr—0600hr along the route are
a few stops for trucks on the B10;
Take a look through the euro post forum there
are lots of tips for Germany,

GET YOURSELF A truckers atlas in germany
it is called TRUCKER --ATLAS FÜR BUS
UND FERNFAHRER costs about €50 it is
excellent and has all the motorways and there exits(AUSFAHRTS)
OR junctions laid out so you can plan your route
look at the sites mentioned on the useful poin´ts
forum and here this will help you,
any more querys just post,
