Route Advice

I’m going from Yarmouth via Norwich to Kingston upon Thames on Saturday to visit a friend. I used to live in SW London and drive round the smoke for a living but it’s been a while and I’m a bit stumped as to what way to go nowadays. When I used to come from Yarmouth to SW London I used to take the A12 to the M25 and then go clockwise to Reigate Hill and up the A217. But this journey has to be via Norwich so I guess I’ll be taking the A11/M11, but I dunno what to do when I hit the M25, go round it?..if so which way?..go down and round the A406?.. or go into the east end and then take the A3 out thru south london?

Any ideas appriciated…journey is by car.

Depending on which side of Kingston you are going:
East then A11-M11-M25 clockwise to J8 then A217, or
West then A11-M11-M25 clockwise to J9 then A243 to join A3 just before Kingston.

There are other routes but means going through City.

Clockwise is always easier than anticlock for that journey.

So the consensus is M25 clockwise?

Hmm…So I’m thinking of either:

M11 - M25 clockwise to A217 - A240

or

M11 - A406 - A307

I’ll be leaving Norwich by 0700 at the latest hopefully.

I’d rather take the north circular personally, I’ve always prefered that route, but I always used to use it weekdays so I’ve no idea what it’s like on a Saturday.

If memory serves your second route means going through Ealing, Hammersmith and Richmond, which will be busy on a Saturdays and BH’s. Used to live in Staines so know the area reasonably.

I reckon you’re probably right.

I guess it was ok before because I was getting paid for it so I prefered to keep it urban.

M25 clockwise it is.

I know the area v.well & I would go clockwise up the A243 at J9 this brings you out at hook can go either straight over the roundabout here & you will end up on the west side of the town which also takes you into the town center past the Driving Standards Agency

Or you can go right come off at next junc and go in via Tolworth but you end up in the same junc tion eventually as the first option -Which is the roundabouit at the start of the oneway system just north of the college & Law courts

Hope that helps

I want to end up off Richmond Road near the Sainsburys (I do know the area really well) it’s just the cross London section was puzzling me (like it always did even when I did it all the time), but that’s why the north circular and A307 was appealing cos it’ll bring me in on the right road.

God I’m glad I moved, London is just stupid, it’s just been put there to get in the way.

Actually it was put there to justify the M25 being built

Just out of interest, why is the M25 anti clockwise a no no?

I know they started some work on it between the M4 and the A40 just after I moved away (thankfully as I used to use that section almost every day). I have to say I very rarely used the very northern section of it though, say between M11 and A41.

That and it’s further

The road works on the Anticlock are from M4 - M3 40mph

Cool thanks.

A11 - M11 - M25 - A217 - A240 it is then. Then at Tolworth I might take the A3 or just go straight over, see what happens.

I might even divert to drop in to some old haunts in Sutton, Morden and Ewell on the way then.

When you go into Sutton you can marvel at the £630,000 bus shelter they built outside the pictures in St Nicholas way  :unamused:

And yes you do still get wet when it rains :unamused: :unamused:

No way!

What the hell is special about it?

I’m really interested to see what they have done to Grand Drive in Lower Morden, cos I lived on the estate there and I’ve heard they’ve put in all kinds of ‘traffic calming’ measures.

I’ve just remembered the bloody gestapo head quarters they built for the police in sutton as well, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing as that bugger went up!!!
