Roping & Sheeting

still no offers :frowning: Here I was hoping there was a will to keep the old skills alive. I think I’ll be fine with sheeting to be honest as I used to sheet and rope inflatables (bouncy castles, bungee runs etc) but I’d still like a day on a master class.

Sorry Danny-b, would love to help but at wrong end of the country. I’m sure, like a lot of others, I’ve never had a problem with passing on the skills I’ve learnt over the years to lads starting out. Just take your time and try to learn from the things that WILL go wrong or you think you could have done better. I don’t think anyone of us was perfect from day one. I can still feel the shame I felt, in the days as a mate, when a tie down I’d rushed came undone. When R&S remember it takes as long as it takes. Don’t let anyone try to rush you or listen to those who say the loads as safe as houses so just do a quick job and get on your way…dave

Cheers Dave. I just want to get a little knowledge about as much as I can, so WHEN a job offer comes in, I don’t turn up without a scooby. I’m coming late to the industry as well so I need a little edge over these 21 yr olds

You’ve already got an edge over the 21 year olds, matey- you don’t think you know everything!

You will be OK, I don’t think there are many 21 year olds coming into the Industry nowadays, the young-uns don’t want it now, early mornings/late finishes/ nights-out/shifts/weekends, ear-ache from the modern women cos they wana go to Tesco’s :unamused: easier money 9 to 5 sat behind a computer  . I’m of old blood, If I don’t know I ask the guy who does. I have a saying I try to live by… The dog has many friends as he wags his tail and not his tongue… I would rather have someone be ■■■■■■ off for 10 mins having to show me something, than for as long because I assumed I knew.

Maybe I should resurrect my famous “Overpriced Load Security, Sheeting & Roping” course, this time including an “Overpriced B&B Accommodation For Pupils” clause.
I’m still desperately trying to build up my Pension Fund, you understand.

do it as a CPC approved course, you’d make some cash then, £60-160 per session, per head aint they?

Maybe I could blag some cash from Bewick’s MOTEC fund?

if you find a stash, I’m looking for funding for me C+E

Get in the queue, lad.

 I feel like I have been for a long time. Just passed my mod 4 literally 5 mins ago. Time to find a job (and funding for the c+e) as there isn’t enough change down the back of the couch.

Have a word with Bewick. He claims to have subsidised the nation’s driver training all his working life!

Not all of it,but a large percentage I’ll have you know “ROF” :frowning:  Cheers Bewick.

Expect a message from windrush, Bewick. He’s after a chunk of the Transport Training Levy that you kept hidden from the MOTEC gestapo!

In the depot at Milnthorpe en-route to Kirriemuir I should think.

Did the bottom rear reel ever get wet from the
road spray up the back?

Cheers Malc.

No :open_mouth: never had a wet claim for all the paper we carried Malc,if you look closely the back sheet was more-or-less treble thickness over the back reel, plus we used decent sheets as well  Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
I remember J&E Transport having non-waterproof cotton sheets that were the size
of a flysheet and went over easily damaged goods before the waterproof sheets
went on, John Entwistle the main man boasted he had never had a load signed for
as wet, he said that if anything seeped through the tarps the cotton sheets would
take care of it, they were really thick heavy things though but did the job.
thanks harry, long retired.

I cannot recall any “wet” claims with countless sheeted loads of soap powder, flour, paper etc. but can remember several “wet” claims with curtainsiders, even one as recently as December 2013. Progress eh.

None of you been in Amex at Newburn with sheet & coiled steel then, every load sighned wet NO MATTER HOW MANY SHEETS YOU HAD ON IT :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Heres a one for Dennis. Regards Larry.
