Nothing overkill about that gents, that’s been illegal here for 40 years, it’s almost 70 years since M&G built the first subframe coiler.
If that breaks loose, and those chains won’t stop it in the event of a frontal collision, it will run down the trailer and straight through the cab then carry on down the road for 200 yards. Clueless yanks!
Big coils go in a well, not between a couple of chamfered off skids. But try convicing the USA of that.

Your right,chocked was my intention,I used to run coils from Bonny Scotland direct into RR in Crewe after I finished 6 years on nights.

The only coilers I pulled were ancient Belgian trailers with a well down the middle and a low tilt canopy. See pic.

Chapmans from Bradford who were bought out by A One Transport , it looks like the photo was taken on or near Fitzwilliam Street Bradford where they were based and which became the Bradford branch of A One .
