Aye Larry they were fair old lumps these CAT Gen Sets, we brought them from Heathrow straight off the Jumbo Freighters during the three day week for K Shoes who were going to use them to power their factories on the days the electric was off but the Electric Board wouldn’t allow them to ! IIRC they were £250,000 a throw in '73 so I wonder what price now ? Cheers Dennis.
If you notice in this shot the Gen Set is actually being lifted from the trailer a few moments after the other shots were taken by Hudsons Strut crane which, of course, is also quite plain to see in the other shots so how this operation could have been achieved without the removal of the chains beats me ! And it was me that took the shots and I can vouch for the fact that I helped to remove said chains ! What a pity I didn’t take a shot of the chains neatly ■■■■■■■ on the ground behind the trailer Dear oh! dear! Cheers Bewick.
Perfick As Old Larkin would have put it in the Darling Buds Of May, Plus a ILR, Dodger too, A bit like some folk I know , Im on the Malts again just to keep me ticking over, A bit like the old 150 Gardner, , Regards Larry.
Leyland600:
Hi Larry, are you breathing out blue smoke or have you got warmed up with the malts and cleared the exhaust. ■■
Cheers, Leyland 600
Hi"Leyland600", Im fine the blue smoke has gone but the air Is Very Blue from my good Lady, Who thinks I drink too much of the Malts, I wonder where in the world she got that idea from, Ive been with her fro well over 60 years & Now she starts to dish out the orders, I supppose Im one of the lucky ones I have a few mates that had grief in their first year of getting wed , , Regards Larry.
Leyland600:
Larry . Congratulations to you both long may it continue, my wife and I are approximately 10 years behind you .
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Thank you, We are off again the end of this month to The family holiday caravan, Our daughter & her husband decided to buy this so we can enjoy whats left of our retirerment years, They are both 60 now, & say that they are getting sick of spending lots of time waiting in airports as they travel abroad about 7 times a year, ,So we are looking forward to a break before the weather changes, Mind you we can go to the caravan anytime as its only 50 mins drive up the coast, & my son in law allways makes sure that the drinks store is full, Regards Larry.
Hi Larry, Just like everyone else who has travelled abroad in the past we are fed up with airline and airport rip offs plus all the inconveniences and delays, consequently we have a list of self catering cottages with excellent facilities better than 5 star hotels stretching from Orkney down through Easter Ross to Mid Wales and finally Poole where the house overlooks the millionaires at Sandbanks but ours is a £1 or 2 a week cheaper, same water, boats, sun and probably better views. No booking hassle we just pick up the phone and speak to owners who are regarded as friends and a booking is made often without even a request for a deposit. We would still like to revisit New Zealand but some health problems restrict long haul flying.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
To hell with the foreign travel and all the hassle that goes with it . Each year we hitch up the caravan and wend our way up to the Highlands , we stay at our regular spot for 8 to 10 weeks ( ain’t retirement wonderful ) quiet , peaceful and a daily vista of those beautiful mountains . Dave
Not the best shaped loades to sheet up IMO, But for a 20 year old young driver IMO Didnt do too bad, Of course he is now in his 50s & Is a perfectionist in whatever he loads, Of course I would say this because he is my son Nigel who drives for the Famous local haulage Co at Swalwell, J.R.Adams Ltd, Regards Larry.

Yes Dennis, 2 Tanks, Our Nigel would go anywere If the money was good, He used to run down to South London & the South Coast a lot so fuel wasnt a problem he didnt have to buy nay on our Shell card unless it was needed, That Terrier he had did very well for us apart from a few head gasket problems, But it was an easy job to do then back on the road to earn a few bob,The good old days, Regards Larry.
