roping and sheeting

Still can’t see those extra two pots sticking out from under the cab, though!

I ,m not game to pass any R&S comments but my years with ALLISON,s Transport (Dundee) I learnt the hard way and will admit to never losing a load (front side or back ) and hated to see a load looking like a Spanish Galleon in full sail !!! No curtainsiders in them days just good lads with Chapped hands in winter … anyway the pic of the Bewick big J do I spy the logo for the Queens award to industry on the door ■■? having been down under for a long time it looks familiar ■■?
…Shoot me down in flames if I,m wrong !!!

Well spotted “backsplice” and yes we won the prestigious award twice for the quality of our S & R achievements so I now shudder to think of the ribald comments that will now be coming my way but they will only be jealous   :unamused:     Cheers Bewick.

Well I suppose that in her 90 years of life ‘Her Majesty’ will have come across a lot of varied efforts at S&R on vehicles dropping off dog food, silver chalices, etc etc at Buck House and Windsor Castle so will probably have picked the best of a bad bunch to bestow her award on? However I am guessing that those Scottish hauliers who delivered to Balmoral and Glamis Castle will have received Knighthoods as, by Dennis’s own admission, the best S&R was done by those North of the Border?

Pete.

Trick question Dave ! Green centre panel on the fly sheet !     Cheers Dennis.

In my opinion, every rope, and every sheet should be stuffed inside every tilt trailer that exists. If there’s not enough space to get them all inside, shove them under, on top, and beside the aforementioned tilt trailers. Then, pour gallons of accelerant all over it, set light to the lot, and give yourself a pat on the back for ridding the transport world of a couple of its poxiest relics from the past. The good old days? My Arse!

Ooooooo! Sounds like you were unable to master “the art” but it’s easy to pour scorn on the era when sheets and ropes were the norm, no curtain siders in those days, but then again it’s just as well the days of sheets and roping are long gone otherwise there’d be loads strewn on every roundabout and corner up and down the UK if the standards of to-days drivers are owt to go by ! Cheers Bewick.

2010vagabond, It’s all we had! Well, apart from those amateurs from t’other side of the ditch with their box vans.
Don’t live anywhere near Leatherhead by any chance, do you?

So what is he going to do with that big lump at the front corner ? Don’t tell me, he’s going to get out his garden shears and cut it off level with the chock rail :open_mouth: Why didn’t he just open his sheets out to the first fold to avoid having all that sheet laying on the ground, Numpty!, then you just quietly pull down the sheet from underneath to the bottom of the chock Simples eh! Cheers Guess!
