Ron Fuller?

I got talking to a stobart driver the other week by the name of ron fuller. He was telling me hed done middle east, far east :open_mouth: , lived in russia for 6 or 7 years. Im usually able to sort the bull from truth and he seemed very knowledgeable on what he was telling me. I just wondered if anyone else knew the name?
I cant for the life of me remember the name of the firm he was with though! was it sts… mts… stm… std… bugger it i cant remember. :unamused:

yep he’s genuine he was main driver at SLR out of harwich back in the early 90s and did plenty of russia, also did eastern bloc at murfitts for a short while mid 90s

have mates who knew him on middle east which i never did - always seemed like a nice bloke all in all and alan bailey the boss at SLR spoke highly of him, but i never knew him all that well apart from bumping into him as you do

p.s suppose it only proves he existed - if it’s him he’s a proper cockney about 60 now i suppose and looks not unlike lee van cleef

Thanks jj im glad about that. He did mention harwich and a few other bits and bobs. Next time i bump into him im gonna pick his memories big time

Yep as has been said, Ron is on the level, also knew him as Russian Ron, knew him when he was working for SLR, think he was about the first driver they had, hadn’t seen him for about 10 years but bumped into him and his misses at Lario about a year ago he was working for Youngs, I think.

sorry, this was meant to be a pm

Found this thread whilst browsing around and would like to update you on a bit of Ron’s history and wherabouts now. I first met Ron in 1993 ish when SLR bought 2 Iveco Eurotech’s from Hartwell Trucks which were a pair of lemon’s and gave constant problems in one way or another. Ron used to moan about his and fetch it back after every trip and it got to the stage where I was the only one there who tried to help him out, so got to know him well. In about 1996 or 97 I was driving for Access Freight Ltd and was surprised to find Ron had started and we worked Italy for a good few years together. When they folded I got a job at J Irlam and Ron followed me there for a period of about 4 years when he left to go to Stobart’s and F P Youngs for a while. Today he works for G W Martin at Braintree on general/containers and bulk tippers. At the moment he is moving dead cows and the like around to various incinerators etc as Martins core business is now in this area. In the early days Martins were into livestock and Ron moved Sheep and Cattle all over Europe for them so has worked there before. One of his son’s also works there.
Happy to say Ron and his wife Sue are good friends and we often go on holiday together. Turkey next year (again)

P.S. Like the reference to Lee Van Cleef. I’m going to call him Lee Van Teef form now on because he’ got none and it will wind him up.

Is this by any chance a guy that used to be called Rumo Ron who i worked with @ Bergan transport in Manchester?

If so i took him on his first trip to Morocco. He was an ace bloke!
