My ex-flat-mate who is Romanian once said to me (while drinking) There would hardly be any Romanian drivers at your job if you drug tested them.
Why don’t companies drug test? I’m an agency driver. In 14 years of agency work I’ve only ever been tested once, and that was an induction at Sainsburys. It’s a seems to me it’s a corporate dirty secret, that they don’t test them because they fear they won’t have cheap and abundant labour.
I think it’s only fair, that if they can sit their license in Romania and come and change it for a British license then they may play not fair in their own country as to how they obtained their license, but in this country they have to come under the same rules, and drug testing should be a good method of weeding out undesirable and dubious drivers that are not taking their job seriously.
Think it should be compulsory all drivers should be drug tested each week, to stop these idiots driving high on drugs,
I did a bit of limping for a very well known haulier (green lorries), the lorry cab reeked of dope, unbelievable that someone would drive a 44t smoking a joint!
The Romanian guy is pretty clever, he knows that statistically a UK driver is four times more likely to use drugs so pushing for mandatory drug testing will see more of his compatriots getting jobs here…
The Romanians where i worked ,were on £35k a year plus.looked after before full timers and decent grafters.Although they moaned if put in actros trucks !I know drugs and users ,They looked normal to me.

Based on the latest data, drug use in the UK is four times higher than it is in Romania…
But heh, don’t let a little fact get in the way of a good xenophobic internet rant
There never has been as great a drug culture in eastern Europe as in western Europe, largely because in the Communist era the currencies were nonexchangeable and therefore virtually useless outside eastern Europe, and this combined with extremely vigilant border controls gave little incentive to anybody to try to smuggle drugs in
My misses works in security. She is the one that told me about the problem with Romanians taking drugs and alcohol before starting their shifts. She says it’s pretty real.

So your missus [sic] works as a legal representative for a company, has some authority and “allows” drunk and/or incapacitated employees to perform their duties. For starters that is not something I would proudly post and admit to on a public forum and secondly the minute they are involved in an accident and or incident they will come down like a ton of bricks on your missus. She after all “knows” about the issue and is “convinced” it is “pretty real”
Come on, you can do better to keep your rant going, first it was an ex-flat mate and now it is your missus.
Anything more substantial to back up your ridiculous accusations?

If I went back into security I’d be doing drugs as well. Such a crap job to do with wages being so poor for what some do.
At hovis we had the random button test , if it went green pass if it went red you were tested but that was alcohol only.
I heard a guy (British) turned up at our place and in the induction where they go through everything including the breathalyser and drug test failed the drug test not just once.

Regardless of nationality Iv worked with guys who have had serious drink or drug issues…
Scary when you think about it
There is a guy who I believe is still at Concorde Logistics and he’s a alcoholic. He rings the office up at night drunk to speak to people. They know about his problem but still send him out on the roads regardless.

Tony’s misses [sic] may well be the one on security there, she doesn’t seem to give two hoots.
Up here in the mines they have random alcohol and drug testing, you never know when so it keeps the most on their toes. Also most of the trucks in the mining and general transport are fitted with ‘alco meters’ which you have to blow into, and only if they show green will the truck start.
We’ve all got to be scared of something; I’m English and am quite scared of wind farms, so on balance I’d probably be better off being scared of drug tests.
