Rolling Thunder Ride for Soldier F

Seem to be drifting away from what Soldier F is being charged with. Just to recap:

Soldier F - what we know

Soldier F gave evidence anonymously to the Saville Inquiry in 2003 and admitted firing 13 rounds on Bloody Sunday.

His assertion that there were “gunmen and bombers killed” was rejected in Lord Saville’s report.

The Saville Inquiry stated that there was “no doubt” Soldier F had shot father-of-six Paddy Doherty, who was unarmed.

Saville also found there was “no doubt” Soldier F had shot an unarmed Bernard McGuigan on Bloody Sunday as he went to the aid of Patrick Doherty, waving a white handkerchief.

At the Saville Inquiry, Soldier F admitted he had shot 17-year-old Michael Kelly - but he said that he had only fired at people with bombs or weapons.

However, Saville concluded Mr Kelly was unarmed.

The Saville Inquiry found that both William McKinney and James Wray could have been shot by Soldier F and three other soldiers.

The inquiry report also stated Soldier F had changed his story over the years.

Would that be the same enquiry that has cost the British taxpayer over £140 million pounds so far? Only one winner there then. I know what I know from numerous tours of the province, I take it that your info comes straight from social media?

I take it yours comes straight from the Naffi bar, as it is complete ■■■■■■■■.

I said where it came from. If you are having difficulty reading that bit I could put it in capitals if you like? Or perhaps some nice crayons?

Had it a while mate, just seems to be an awful shame to waste it on a creature that quite frankly isn’t worth the effort.

I think I’m seeing the reason for the venom and bile here; “failed life as a squaddie”. Did they not let you in? Were you defective in some way? It’s ok though, nothing to be ashamed of, I’m sure you’ll find something in life that you can actually do that doesn’t leave you feeling so inadequate and embittered. Good luck.

Does any one else remember the Billy Connolly song with the line “What do you do with a gun in your hands ,faced with a hundred odd weans” Weans means children. Soldier F was a young man probably zbing himself.

Interesting article here:

The soldiers were offered immunity from prosecution, if they told the truth at the public inquiry.

But did they?

I find myself very torn by all this. No one can blame relatives of the killed for seeking truth and justice, but is it fair to go after a very young man who was put into the frontline in a dangerous situation without at least having the chain of command in the dock alongside him?

I watched a TV documentary about this case many years ago, where they tried to pin down the issue of ‘who fired first’.

The soldiers clearly thought they were under fire when they first opened fire. If I remember it right, the documentary found out that there was a soldier a block away who was under nail-bomb attack, and he had (quite properly) fired over the heads of his attackers in self-defence. The documentary suggested that the other soldiers had heard his gunshots echoing off the buildings in front of them and thought they were under fire. It also produced a grainy, blown-up picture of what appeared to be a man in civilian clothing pointing a handgun towards the soldiers. Not a clear enough image to be sure, though.

No matter who did what, the only winners from the incident were the IRA. ‘Bloody Sunday’ was pretty much the end of the mostly peaceful and justified Civil Rights movement in Ulster.

Well even if he was, at least it would only be a few in the RDC who have to listen to him whereas every time your mum and dad go out and leave the computer unlocked its the entire trucknet membership who have to suffer your pish

I wasn’t in the forces but I have become close to them through my work with the Royal British Legion. I assisted the chap behind rolling thunder get it in the public eye, the support for Soldier F is extraordinary but don’t forget Soldier B, the second soldier to be prosecuted for following orders.

This is a local lad who was murdered by a sniper 2 weeks after the Downing Street Declaration was signed.

When will his killer be brought to justice?

And this is why this issue is causing so much anger, it has created a hierarchy of death, Catholic A killed by the security forces will have the full weight of Sinn Fein and their propaganda tools behind them, while Catholic B killed by the IRA will have nothing even though the people calling for the prosecution of the Army know the names of those who killed catholic B. And for that we have Tony Blair and his cretinous human rights lawyer of a wife to thank. Justice has to be seen to be even handed and even a blind man can see that in this case it is not
