YES nipper, ian you got me, i still realy cannot place you, i rememeber a ian ,hard hat.ian ,wobblie gob,im now 70 but my memory is still quite good,i will get you in the end lol.with a little bit of help maybe,
i have started to write my driving history,i posted 2 lots on this forum however they have put a lock on it,but you can still access it but not comment.i think it was to much in one go in my wrting i have just got as far as my first trip with PETE MUNDY on my computer, pages of it…now theres a good man…did you have to ring anyone up or was it your own working out?
what is strange one of the places i went to when on jcs i now live there littlehampton ,we used to load tomatoes, and we used to run with DAVID baileys drivers into spain first off…near pampalona for veg,
i did have a longdriving history before ROKOLD and there are so many men you got to know, however,it has all gone, but i would, of all thingslike to be a passenger in a truck and just go and look properly at all the place me and thousands of other drivers went to…by just reading lots of these posts on this site i am pleased i worked where i did…i expect some of the ex collegues have risen to high places within transport, not me,allways black hands and big boots…cheers vic.

I didn’t need to ring anyone Vic. Bowker and Pulleyn did it for me.
I don’t think you’ll get me tbh. You were just finishing when I started but we met a couple of times when you were working for Adrian.
Both Hard Hat and Wobbly were both top guys. Pleased to have known both. Saw Hard Hat @ a Rokold reunion a couple of yrs ago. Still looks well.
I’ll let you know when the next and I’ll now look up your thread. Shame we couldn’t locate Pete Mundy for the last one.
Regards
Nip

Ihave never been to any reunions, best just sit at home and crack a few cans and think .ah-well ,and read these posts.i think we all wished we had been in on the long distance for a start.IRAN ETC,However think of all the hassel we used to get with the fridges, working when everyone else was asleep, stupid deadlines, set by the best liers in the world.and do it year after year.have you seen" dont lie to me" on tv,they ought to have been doing what we all did ,they would never belive it…It was a standerd requirment for traffic clerks to be a truth full lier…
When the local TESCO DELIVERY, delivery arrive near me,if i am around, i usuall stand and look at the fridge and the driver allways comes and says can i help you,…hehe and i say why wasnt your fridge running when you pulled up…are well, they splutter,i just walk away…my days amusment.i bet they all say back at the depot watch out for this chap, tell him to f off…lol magic.
Still no idea who you are, passenger in the 1980s.zeebruge,was you with your dad.or did you travel as second driver.for free…my wife did .but our own travel insurance.she traveld to most of europe… do you remmember a chap from TWEKSBURY WAY ,not Barry mcqueen ,bob somebody who used to look after the english meat trucks in RUNGIS OVER CHRISTMAS.and did catering doughnut stalls when ever and on for ROKOLD FOR A TIME…did you do any wine collections.they were mad…

NIPPER BATCH…

HI mel ,
did the jock have a bull nosed black volvo, scania, motor as he had a brother who started european as i remmeber take ing him to Italy, the blanc was still open ,they were a big family from north scotland used to run cattle trucks it was him what got a lot of the good distance work and meat from all over esp Germany to Italy for pullen ,the first poland i did was his work, you would not like a right hander off him, eric slater would have been a good match for him lol ,you did not cross him ,you would soon be gone, he did not last to long a handfull for all.liked nothing better than a ■■■■ up then a bundle…

Seen a couple of pics and a couple of mentions on here, I worked for em for 7yrs in 2 spells but first went as a passenger in the early '80’s. Shipped out Zeebrugge, tipped USAF camp in Germany, weekended at Carisio,

loaded peaches at Vignola I, Monday and made our way home

tipped London Wednesday night. Shipped back out to Belgium and loaded Thursday

and tipped Beejam, Milton Keynes Friday. Loved every minute of it  :sunglasses:

Didnt realise at the time I’d work for Robin a few years later :unamused: . Here’s a few of the trucks I drove/had :sunglasses:

First truck I drove there was Geoff’s “Hippo truck”

Left shortly after I got this truck new. Went walk about and came back 3 yrs later :unamused:

Did you ever come across a bloke from Derby called Maurice Shelton?

About time you started this thread Nipper, i,ll let you put other pics on mate.

The lads at SDM … Dave, Martin, Jim are all Ex Rokold people and actually still do a lot of the old work from those days. Top company to deal with
