Some very sad news: ROBERT DODS BROWN has passed away at the tender age of 65. He went peacefully and in no pain in the early hours of this morning 17.2.14. He was in Cambridge hospital after suffering a stroke.
“Dodsy” was a great character and a very good friend of mine. I wrote an article about him for Truck & Driver May 2012 and Corgi have released a model of his Scania 110 in Chapman & Ball colours.
Dodsy was a larger than life character full of vigour and always up for the crack! He suffered a bad stroke 3-4 years but not one to sit still for a moment, he made the most of life. Even though he lost the use of his right side, he continued to walk his faithful collie regularly and attended what he called “golfing days”…a day at the hospital physio department!
Last week Dodsy suffered a set back and was admitted to Cambridge hospital where he passed away last night.
You can take a well earned break now driver! R.I.P my friend

I didn’t know Dodsy

RIP Driver
Rest well, my friend now you are ‘booked off’.
We shall miss you back here Robert.
Here he is with his friends at Gaydon this last autumn.

Thanks for posting this photo David. Good day that was
Sad day today
That’s a shock, he only lived about 2 miles down the road from me. I met him when I was doing a job for a someone local and he walked passed with his dog, then I did a job for him at his house a while later and then a few days after that saw his picture, the group one above, on here!
Shortly after me asking on here about him, he phoned me up to ask if it was indeed me! We had a chat and he gave me an open invite to pop in when I was passing for a cup of tea and a chat about his M/E days.
As has been said, he was a really nice bloke, liked to chat. RIP Robert, shame we never got around to sharing a cup of tea and listening to your M/E tales.
I found this page about Robert on the TopRun.CH website…
toprun.ch/truck/2012-02/Scan … index.html
I would hope they don’t mind me sharing the link given the circumstances.
RIP Robert, 65 is no age but it looks like you lived life to the fullest, good on yer!
R.I.P. Mr Dodds-Brown, sincere condolences to his family & friends.

As an old Chapman and Ball subby this comes as extremely sad news. Gone to soon RIP Dodsy.
Couldn’t believe that Mr Brown died when i opened the toprun-website a few minutes ago!
I met him once in gaydon five months ago when i asked to make a picture of him in front of the Jarmans and my scania.
He was really nice and we talked a little about his good old days in M/E-Transport.
I’m really proud of the picture i attached.
Rest in peace, Mr. Brown!
Well I am really gobsmacked! Robert rang me up only a couple of weeks ago for a chat.
I first met him when he was on for C & B and I was on Brit European,by the time I was on C B he had moved on.
He came up to my gaff a few years ago with Nick Garlick when he was doing some research for THAT book, then he got to ringing me again a couple of years ago.
So we lose another former middle east man,not many of us left.
RIP Robert,it was a pleasure to know you,There’ll be many tales told up there, you wont be alone.
My condolences to his family.
