A good idea that came to naught.
Why on earth there are 20 miles of roadworks on the M1 is beyond me. There is no way they can work on it all at once.

2 miles you having a laugh. if they did 2 miles would take them years to complete the 20 mile smart motorway upgrade.
Two miles was HA suggestion. Twenty miles is a joke, especially when you’ve got three cars abreast doing 45 mph

Thanks Edmund, is that so you can get to your golf meetings without interruptions and stuff those who drive at night who’d have to put up with 5x the length of roadworks (since they have to put out / take off cones).
2 miles wouldn’t work as different crews do different things one behind the other esp on major upgrades. In some cases, theres 2 miles of vehicles waiting to load / unload just to resurface.
Where its daft is like the M1 recently (well after upgrade open) where they shut it from 25 to 23a, which is a long run and much much longer diversion. Turns out they are digging 2 little holes on verge but instead of just closing one junction at a time they have to shut the whole thing and addon 30 min extra.
