Got to go from Westhoughton to Sheffield on Monday. Anyone know what the A628 and A616 are like. Will be in am 18 ton. Thanks.
Tight and twisty and you won’t be rushing. No advantage over going the M62/M1 route from Westhoughton if you don’t have a drop on that route.
depends what the weather is doing,
if its nice, have a bimble over the top, its not a race track (unless your in a tipper 
) enjoy the views. 
if its nasty-M62, come off at J23-A640-A642-A637 to J38/M1-Sheffield. (Woodhead will be shut anyway)
Or ■■■■■ out & go M62-M1 Sheffield.

If its relativley calm weather, use the A628 and take it easy, I wouldnt advise any HGV to use the snakes pass either, Its either A628 or M62-M1.
Thanks for the replies. Have to see how the time goes. Am starting in Swansea. First drop West Kirby. Second Westhoughton Bolton then Sheffield.
A635 over saddleworth moor into holmfirth is an alternative usualy quieter the A 628 up over haidedge to 616 brings you out at the flouch roundabout should be ok in an 18tonner
