I hear the police are actually doing people for having wheels come off nowdays… That would kinda be an extreme example of driving a vehicle that’s an MOT fail.
As was said above though - The MOT certificate only proves it was roadworthy at the moment of issue. You could damage the car on the way home from the garage, render it an MOT failure - and continue to drive it without anyone being awares other than yourself. Cracked springs, nail right through tyre, detached fuel tank - that kind of thing.

If it wrote off the van - how did they know what had written off the van if the wheel wasn’t found?
