Road oddities

So was heading north up the M5 this morning and got to J9 and it was obviously backing up on the sliproad which didn’t particularly bother me as I was staying on the M5 anyway.

I kept in the nearside lane, slowed a bit because I knew that for some unknown inexplicable reason at that particular junction everyone seems to subconsciously know to wait on the hard shoulder on the approach to the junction. They have done this for years and I’ve genuinely only ever regularly seen it at this junction. Other junctions lane one becomes clogged if the slip is blocked so what has made people collectively and seemingly instinctively act in this way?

Any other curiously local road events that seem to contradict convention spotted elsewhere?

M4 West bound, j.15 was like that, and also j.19

Problem is with the selfish that’s who drive up to the front, and then have to slow down/stop in te nearside lane, causing chaos behind… :imp:

M40 around ofxord area possibly Leamington spa area . not sure what junction people do same there qué for miles on hard shoulder .
On m56 junction 19 they don’t now due to new road layout.
But for years always wondered why people qué in the right hand lane for the a556 /m56.
When there were plenty of signs indicating both lanes took you the same direction…
I used always get in left hand lane n carry on past all other drivers who were happy sat there while other lane was empty

Bah bah bah , woolly fleece springs to mind

See I don’t get it. If it was prevalent at every junction or even a majority I could understand it, I just can’t quite work out what causes it to happen in such specific instances

I believe that there are signs there stating that they should not queue up on the hard shoulder

They be as much use as the "use both lanes to queue " signs on the approach to a lane closure…

Most people are moronic dimwits. And to many of them have a driving licence.
