Road Death Statistics

Is there now a sharp rise in road accident death rate in progress?

Every working day of late it seems, I see some car in a field, overturned on the motorway, wrapped around a lamp post, or on the hard shoulder ablaze…
The ambulance doesn’t appear to be in much of a hurry for a totally smashed up vehicle yet to be recovered.

People must be dying here, and we’re not even back to full strength on the roads as of yet.

Has people’s driving “gone rusty” these past 3 months, or is it something else?

What is everyone seeing in their regions?

I can only speak for the Home Counties and South of England here.

What do you expect most have been sitting at home for 3 months and jumping back into the car they have forgotten what little skills they had in the first place…
Been some shocking speeders caught in the South west in the last few months & plenty of smashes also…

Monday mornings are traditionally worst due to them forgetting how to drive after a weekend off, God knows what happens now after months of not driving!

In fact on the news this morning a story appeared from motor insurers saying that claims have increased by 35% since the relaxing of lockdown. They theorise that drivers “may be rusty”, no ■■■■ Sherlock.

After low traffic levels, and low accident levels, it would be a wonder if there wasn’t a rise in RTAs.
Will that “bounce up” above pre-lockdown levels, because of lack of practise? Or stay lower because drivers are more alert and less blasé?
Lots of other suppositions and guesses available.
Admiral Insurance reckon evening rush hour is worst time of day for accident claims. Leasehold say Tuesday is worst day.
.
But after a low recent accident rate, an increase is (unfortunately) likely.

How would a 4x4 fare if head-on with any average family car though?

Watch out robroy you 4x4 warrior there coming for ya

I blame boris. If he had allowed people to drive as exercise on lockdown this wouldnt be happening.

I have too see cara in fields and some in lamposts.

Im guessing people have washed there brains so much with the covid bull they have forgotten the basic things in life. Im sure some after returning to work will be trying to tune in for the daily update the will be that brained.

Hey ho. I can still handle my vehicle and still mentally stable so. Crack on drive. Dont worry about the sheep.

Wot happens when all the TDS “sufferers” hit the streets again?

Isn’t that by far the largest of the “Mental Health Issues” groups out there?

your find people who have had to work go or been driving during lockdown have been so use to empty roads. pulling out at junctions running red lights became the norm for some. now the traffics back there not use to it. to use to racing around on empty roads

Even the GoogleCar taking these shots - is approaching the same junction here on the wrong side of the road.

I would suggest that there is some “familiarity breeding contempt” here, since Long Lane is a 7.5t limit, so there would not be the expectation of running into a truck head-on…

A truck is going to be shielded coming from the right, by the hedge. Even if the truck is only doing 30 from right to left in this picture, a driver doing 30 let alone 50 at the point of picture 2 - on the wrong side of the road, is going to be pulling out across Bedfont road at the exact moment the truck is right on top of them…

I’m sure none of these people wanted to be seeing in the new year with their deaths, but all the same - Would YOU let someone half-cut pick you up on new year’s eve for a few bevvies - rushing about to make it to some “see-in-the-new-year” venue?

If I were out with a mate on the ■■■■■ I’d have hidden his keys already, even if that meant I’d have to offer to pay for the cab to take us all home after…

No one wins here. RIP. :frowning:

I haven’t done…

Any research into this but, isn’t there a chance the Google camera car was on the correct side of the road but the images appear in what appears to be a backwards time order?

Sorry to burst your bubble but the google car cameras take all pictures at 360 degrees so it would have been travelling on the correct side of the road in the right direction.

Google driver must make a habit of it then. :unamused: :unamused:

You shoulnd’t mock what was probably the last thing dead driver actually saw, as it is unlikely he saw the artic that hit him from the right coming out of that junction on the side of the road shown, presumably not in reverse gear travelling on the correct side of the road.

You can see the shadow of googlecar in the extra shot posted, that confirms the car is indeed travelling away from the direction of imagine capturing…
