A66 westbound was going to be shut tonight after Bowes turn off anyway for roadworks.
Take note of their twitter feed. Much more accurate and up to date than both Traffic England and Highways England app is. You can also punt questions to them too. I’ve asked about A66 closures at Bowes to be told that yes its closed but you could go through the village to divert round it.

Ah, driving thru Bowes, that brings back memories of the early 80’s. 3 or 4 in the morning, fresh off the Larne/Stranraer boat, into Bowes and the fumb duck locals are walking back and forth over the zebra crossing protesting about the traffic going thru the village, stopping all the traffic (even the Irish fridge lads!). Eventually plod would stop them and let us get on. When they got their bypass and peace and quiet they had no passing trade and the village died! They are still complaining.
