Road changes from highways agency

From Highways agency…

“It is true that there are a number of directives coming from Brussels that will have to be implemented over the next two to four years. The major ones are replacement of all roundabouts with traffic lights, standardising on German autobahn speed restrictions [for cars] and lowering maximum speeds for LGVs to 40mph on motorways during the day, limiting them to the near side lane only with no overtaking. LGV maximum speed would then raise to 50mph after 9pm until 7am. The frequency of LGV driver retests is still being discussed but looks likely to be a full health check and retest every three years”

Can anyone believe this trash! I don’t care about the roundabouts, I think that the autobahn speeds would be a good idea, but the LGV restrictions are ridiculous. I just got my class 1 recently and I am now wondering if I did the right thing :frowning:

And the date is… :unamused: Welcome to April.

if they take roundabouts away, we will be going miles out of our way before we can turn round and find the road we want

pmsl

Grrrr! I post my April Fools msg, and Krankee (who must be being kranky  ) posts a spoiler just 6 minutes later not giving my lovingly crafted post a chance to wind anyone up! :frowning:

Oh well. Must try again next year :bulb:

It wasn’t wasted Jay, it had me going until I read the second post.

The sad thing is, I am not (usually) gullable but wasn’t actually so suprised by these ‘propositions’.

It just shows that this government & Brussels don’t look out of place when spouting crap!! :imp:

You know, I could actually see that happening, or atleast being proposed by some little twit of a politician who hasn’t got a clue about the real world.

The major ones are replacement of all roundabouts with traffic lights

That’s what they’re doing around here - at least, pretty much every roundabout of any significant size has got (or is getting) traffic lights.

And another thing - apparently, they’re not allowed to paint “right turn” arrows on to right-turn lanes on approach to roundabouts any more - so that people don’t think that they’re supposed to turn right on the roundabout entrance and end up going the wrong way around. The arrows are all “straight ahead”, even if it’s actually a right-turn-only lane.

And no, that’s not an April fool’s joke.
