Risbys cafe.. sad news

Hi all,
I’m not sure if we have any regulars on here that used to frequent the cafe at risby, well the cafe is owned by my mum Margaret and her husband derick,

Not only does mum own it but she used to manage it and work so hard there to make it a great place to be, sadly this could not not last and she had to rent the cafe out to the current people,

Well the reason my mum had to do this is she got diagnosed with stage 2 cancer she fought to keep Woking as long as she could for you guys as she understood the hard work we do on the roads and at the end of day it’s good to see a friendly face.

It’s with utter sadness since Christmas mum has gone down hill very fast and is now basically bed ridden with the bloody cancer taken over virtually every organ in her body the latest it’s got to her heart and brain…

She is an admiration to me, at 59years old she has worked bloody hard and would do anything for anyone it’s not fair. she is still fighting and won’t give up. sadly we don’t have long weeks rather than months,

I just thought I would let anyone that knew her or used to goto the cafe about 2 years ago know, and if you visit the cafe now I am personaly sorry if it is not run how it used to be…

Take care out there we not here for long

Regards
Kev

Hi Kev,
That is a really sad tale.
I have never been in Risbys, but am sure many drivers will miss your mum being there.
regards Ben

Hi Kev, sorry to hear about your mum I’m sure all the lads and lasses who frequent Risbys will be thinking of you and your family. Haven’t been in there for about 2 years now but you always got a warm welcome and a decent meal, regards Allen.

Ive never been to the cafe but my heart goes out to you and your family.i hope yous and your mother dont suffer too long.best wishes

Great respect to you Kev for your post. I have experienced the same with my Mum,please accept my best wishes for you and your family.

Never used the cafe but very admirable of yourself to come on TRUCKNETUK to tell us your sad news! I hope your mother does not suffer any longer than she has to! Chin up to you and your family at this very sad time, it’s a nasty, horrible disease and you can thank her for looking after all the lorry drivers over the years!

Thank you all for your kind messages I will let her know, I’m a truck driver my self have been for 12 years now, but been off work due to stress and depression I guess this not helped me but I will get back one day soon, you read stories about how drivers are these day, no respect for each other etc etc but when it matters most of us are in a way one big family and will help anyone out in need, it was my mum and her husband that got me into this game and I was taught old school, and from the stories I have heard they were the best days,

What I’m trying to say I guess is life’s to short for crap, enjoy what you do if not change it, be happy
Respect to you all drive safe
Kev

i know how you feel mate lost my dad at 62 to bloody cancer, my dad keep going to work up until finding out he had cancer, 2 weeks later he died, 43 years at rolls royce :frowning:

best wisher to you all

Sad news Kev. Never been there but know that a smile, a warm welcome and good grub can make your day. Keep your chin up mate and let’s hope she doesn’t suffer too long.

Very sorry to hear your news mate
Used the caff a fair bit a little while back whilst doing a stint on containers, as it was very handy in relation to its location to the docks. It was recomended to me by another driver and after my first visit i found it a friendly place, good clean food, big portions and cracking showers, so it became a regular for me as and when i needed a night out in that area.
I feel your pain, and hope its not to bad for your mum at this time, i lost both my mum and dad to cancer, aswell as the mother in law in the last few years, its ■■■■ :frowning:
Chin up, try and be strong, and make the most of every single minute you have with your mum, i wish you all the best.

Just thought I would update all on this post,

Mum sadly passed away on the 25/4/2015

She was an amazing lady who never complained and fought to the end, luckily she did not suffer in pain, and died peacefully at home with family by her side,
