I’d not been to a truckshow for at least 20 years but during last Winter’s little escapade in NZ I visited a “Rigs 4 Kids” show.
Basically they try to raise money for charity to help kids with special needs, cancer and other illnesses. Normally have a bit of a parade/convoy through the town and then park up in a central location. In Palmerston North they use a local park/recreation ground and cone off part of the main road. They set up a few ramps to make it easier for the kids to get in the cab and then the drivers can take them for rides around the block. May not sound that interesting to some of you but the local parents and youngsters seemed to love it.
Is there anything similar to this happening in the UK??
I realise that we live in a rather different society to New Zealand and a lot of parents may not be too keen on the idea of letting their child ride in the cab of a lorry with a stranger etc.
What other activities or events do you know of where the industry is seen to be giving something back or helping out a good cause??
are you back in sunny rainworth now then m8 i personally think its a good idea too many tight fisted hauliers over here tho i bet stobat would jump at the chance tho
philgor:
all i can think of is the east coast trucker’s charity…
Yep East Coast Truckers, despite the best efforts of the rule makers to stop them, it’s quite a big do, with people lining the route all the way.
I think most of the haulage companies in this area have at least one truck in the convoy and it’s all made possible with more than a little effort from trucknets Mr Vain (Rob Billman)and many others in the East Coast Truckers.

“As back down Blid’ duff for a bit int it like”
Got an option to go back to NZ long-term if I decide that’s what I want to do.
You still shufflin’ sports gear out of Shirebrook??
Nearly went to see your old mate down at Kirkby but I’ve had 2-3 job offers in the last 24 hours so I’ve been spared!
It’s a good idea but who knows if it would take off in the UK?
Apparently started when a Kiwi came over here to drive for a haulage firm that backed on to an orphanage.
At night/weekends the kids used to help the drivers wash the trucks and as a thank you the boss organised a BBQ/bouncy castles etc. and the drivers took the kids for a spin round the neighbourhood.
Obviously he took the idea back home with him and it became quite a big deal over there.
now then mi duck im working at kims chilled at moment self employed with an agent i been here full time now for the past 3 months and they keep chucking work at me,money is good aswell if you wanna jump on board m8 pm me and will give you a phone number to contact he will take you on straight away, there was a company in nz that was prepared to take me on this year in september i think it was called dynas based in dundin but as the other half is pregnant and baby due in october does’nt seem the right thing to do this year
TBH I think you’ve backed a winner there pal… I wouldn’t be too fussed about going to Dynes or Tuapeka, having said that, lots of other Brits have gone over to work for them and enjoyed it. South Island is too quiet for me, it’s very picturesque but there’s only a million people down there, Christchurch was lovely untill it got flattened by the earthquake… If I go back it’d have to be up North, probably Auckland… It’s a bit more alive up there plus there’s more women than you can shake a stick it at!!
If it doesn’t work out at my job interview tomorrow I’ll give you a shout…
spoke with my man and if you need it duck could get you a start brgining of week pm me for phone number if needed just done 6 shifts with 2 nights out the hours are there if you need it !!!
