Ok guys, I’m having a little look at going the o/d route but would like to start on rigids.
Questions - is there much work about for rigids?
What type, fridge curtain box van etc etc
What type of wagon should I be looking for i.e. 4 wheeler 6 wheel etc etc?
Theres loads to ask and I’m sure more will come to mind as time goes by but there is just some starting questions!!
Hi Dan, some people say they can earn as much money with a rigid as with a tractor unit, but 1. its by choice…2.depends on the work and contacts you have. If you have a class one then why not go for a tractor as i believe that there is more work out there for a unit then for a rigid…
If you buy a rigid then you are stuck for choice…if you buy a unit…you can haul any trailer…do some home work…ask companies about work…ask insurance companies about costs etc in comparison with a rigid or a tractor…ask about g.i.t. insurance and ask vosa about licencing costs etc…and i wish you luck
yes you’ll earn more with a rigid than an artic “if” you can find full time work for one, not something thats easy to do but worth looking into. as for what wagon that depends on intirely what work you can find, if your considering buying something like a curtain sider and touting for work, forget it, you’ll never find enough to keep the wagon on the road and remember when work goes quiet the subbies are the first to get parked up!
my advice would be to go and see all the haulage firms in your area and just enquire whats about before spending any money, like a say rigid work is hard to find, artic work is easy if you don’t mind working for shirt buttons.
