Rigid to bus but not bus to rigid

Is this right?..if a driver only has cat C with no D he/she can jump in a bus and drive it as long as he/she doesn’t have or pick up passengers …but a cat D only driver with no C can’t jump in a rigid unless they have cat c as well

I think that was how it used to be. Now you need the specific licence to drive whichever vehicle it is. A bus is a Passenger Carrying Vehicle and as such you need a PCV licence to drive it.

What is difficult to understand with driving licences is, I know a 21 year old who holds a PCV licence and drives 15m tri axle coaches but cannot drive a 7.5t truck. Where is the sense in that? He can drive up to 80 people across Europe but needs someone to help him move house because he can’t drive the hire truck!!

Yeah, great isn’t it

I think there is an exception if you are driving the bus for purposes of maintenance (no passengers carried) or as a workshop fitter taking a bus to a broken down vehicle so it’s driver can then continue the journey with his / her passengers whilst you either fix or wait to recover the broken down.

Correct, although you need to have held the cat. C for two years.
