bedding companies (rest assured etc) use boxes on foldable legs and are fastened on with twist locks, usually wagon and drag, drop trailer somewhere, tip box one then go back and swap for box 2 and then go back for the empty box and trailer later.
Tuffnell’s parcels use those as well, good system in practice, just make sure the legs are secured before you drive out!

Your right, splitters are a better bet than drawbars, you can fit a 40ft on a splitter but drawbars are limited to 20fts

sorry did not write thread correctly i meant ridgids with twistlocks carrying shipping containers
was it a flatbed lorry
or a proper skelly system
Assuming you don’t mean the drawbar outfits run by a number of the bigger companies, I have seen a few such trucks. There are one or two small operators, I think one might be called Haynes, from Cambridge way? They run mainly DAF rigids which carry one 20’ container.
There was some discussion on here years ago about this - I think some of these have a niche market in returning empty containers to the docks?
These ones definitely do not have trailers, they always run alone.
