i remember being in the royal george while weekended in folkstone going back about 6 years ago, there was a couple of long drivers in there, i driver for a well known international furniture delivery company said he wouldnt mind a job with longs. longs driver went outside on phone to the boss, came back in and said more or less he had a job! took all of 5 minutes. even the thornburn drivers were warning him to stay away lol

Oh Yes, i am in the process of bringing an action against them as i type, it might also interest everyone reading this that there are . 35 of the 118 drivers that R long went through last year who have come forward to join in with the action either with statements or proof of wrong doing by R longs. it will take months to piece together but it will be worth it because one way or another we all intend to put a very large dent in the arogant farmers piggy bank.
you have to admire anyone who can build a multi million pound business that leads its field of expertise, unless it is by climbing over every one that helps you acheive that goal.

two years off the road caring for my sick wife, savings slowly depleted, house repossessed , drove me into the R Long trap, and broad shoulders and a thick skin helped me become a veteran R Long driver, and the fact that you do get to drive away from the farm!

please please do yourself a huge favour and steer well clear of this company. if you are a family man think of them, even the office staff that have family dont think the drivers have the rite to spend time with their loved ones.
be aware that in nearly 18mths i only twice recieved a proper wage as promised by longs. they say you will earn £1000 a fortnight, i earned an average of 820.00 a month even though i spent most weekends away in mainland europe.

To be fair if I’d had an experience like that I’d be shouting too…

Whist I wish you luck in getting action taken against Long’s bear in mind that they have been doing this for many years. I went for an interview with them 12 years ago and the attitude was the same then and I got the impression that was the way they always behaved towards staff.
The problem is that Mr Long knows the right people and therefore believes that he is invincible.

So your wages were £1180 a month short yet you still stuck around for a year and a half?

Come on lads lets play fair an give poor ole Richard a break FFS. Far too many pages of derogatory remarks about this well known local employer who saves many from the workhouse.
Is it his fault he was born into a family that owns loads of farm land ? It’s his parents fault for being serf owners for so long and teaching poor Richard their bad ways as he was growing up, not his. He tries but it’s a very hard habit to break I imagine.
Look at it this way, every year he buys himself a new truck an trailer (or he did) and he allows his lowly farm hands the honour of washing and polishing it every weekend, but what you fail to notice is that he gives his old one, not used much at all, to his favourite driver. (I asked when it would be my turn and Richard said with a sneer, sorry smile ''did I intend to be still there when I was 92) So I never expected to get one any time soon.
As for the nasty comments made about the office staff. Totally uncalled for I think and as an example …
I was going slowly up that long motorway hill in the vicinity of the Berlin split IIRC for Frankfurt de Oder and the border. Long queue of trucks in front an behind, the chap behind me was too impatient and pulled out too soon and clipped the back end of the VW Golf that was overtaking us all, the car spun into the passi side of my unit, slid along it across the front and then down the drivers side. True that is. Luckily no-one was seriously hurt and we was escorted by the police to next services where the car people explained what happened and exonerated me. Our planner at Wuym… wiymu… ■■■■ it Windham (or what ever you want to call him,watch the swear filter lol) P***r asked me over my phone that I paid for ''did you get the form signed by the car driver to state that it wasn’t your fault? !!
You prick, of course I never you stupid fat ■■■■■ the last thing they wanted or needed was that !!
What other employee, especially an ex driver turned planner would immediately think about Richards interest (financial maybe) at a time like this? For this he deserves a clap but more likely ‘the’ clap!
I honestly found Edward to be OK, if I needed any help I would go to him.
In conclusion, well nearly, if you had the pleasure and everything else wonderful to be married to the delectable, ( my crepe don’t stink) Lorraine (crepe as in pancake as in cowpat as in cow) wouldn’t you feel the need to take out your frustrations on someone who is expendable ie. driver? Would cost him a lot more to get rid of Lorraine wouldn’t it ■■

Used to be Dover or Newhaven as a rule or Hull for the heavy stuff IIRC, as for honest running … 100%, must have been cos I never got pulled for any infringements over rest hours or even when I lost a few cards.

I doubt i’ve got enough experience for them to take me on and the whole polishing the truck on a saturday afternoon isnt really my thing.
